Preaching Restraint

I want to scream. I want to kill somebody.

Here is my decision. I am going to take a deep breath and wait until after the Tulane game. They win; we wait and take it week by week. They lose; all Hell breaks loose. SMU Football Blog tells me he is gathering addresses for the individual members of the Board of Trustees. BrianTinBigD says he has a design for a "Fire Copeland" T-shirt. I will pass out flyers at Homecoming, I swear it.

It isn't as if there will be any surprises in the next two weeks. is there any result against TCU that will surprise anyone to the extent that it elicits outrage? Ditto A&M. We got beat by the Green and Gold Doormats and about to be crushed in two successive weeks. But to show that I am not overreacting, that I am a rational human being; I will wait until after Tulane.

I accept the fact that Bennett will in all likelihood finish the year. I will even accept that if he can win three games, he might stay.

If we lose to Tulane, I won't accept a pathetic offensive display 11 weeks in a row. I won't accept THIS MAN (Copeland) firing a third football coach; I won't accept THIS MAN hiring a third football coach; I won't accept THIS MAN making decisions for the athletic department anymore.

I am going to TCU. I had to be talked into it by a guy that went to Arkansas for goodness sakes who said he'd go with me. My wife says she has no interest and none of my fellow SMU grads have any interest either! We are still making the road trip to Houston, but now only because my wife and I have reservations at Cafe Annie Friday night.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Cafe Annie = overpriced and lousy food. When was the last time you were there? Please reconsider your dining options while in Houston.

Put me down for a "Fire Copeland" shirt. Add "Fire Bennett" to the back and I'd be even more interested. I like our coach as a person, but it's obvious he does not have the skills to be a head coach, too many losses even for SMU. It seems like every school in the nation pulls an upset once in a while. When was the last time we won a game that could be considered an upset...Kansas? That's a small upset and it was in 2000, freaking pathetic.

My wife used to work for Schiller Del Grande Restaurant Group. We still eat at Cafe Express about once a week ("Cafe Expensive", yes, I know the joke). Thanks for insulting our friends' five star restaurant, dude.

La Griglia is another fine choice. Pizza is good at Colina's. after that, everything else in Houston has "pappa" in front of it.

Hey, I'm sorry...I never had a pleasant experience there. Have a great time.

There's gonna be a lot more of that after TCU drills us a new one. I'll only go for the Boulevard after that.

Okay, guys. We lost a winnable game. We stunk up the field. We may be 0 for 2005. But the players don't deserve an empty stadium. I will be leaving DC after the Phillies/Nationals game on September 30. Driving until 1-2 a.m. Sleeping for 6 hours and then driving the rest of the way to Huntington, WV to see us play Marshall and repeating the process home. I may even skip the baseball game (with playoff implications at this point) to go see us play Marshall. Why? For the players who will be fellow alums some day (and to see all the West Virginia inbreds for laughs). If you can't come to the games and support them, by all means, go take up knitting, needlepoint, home decorating, fashion design, hair dressing or some other such activity.

Why not? There's something to be gained in all of those activities. Thank goodness for the Boulevard.

I actually think we will have a legitimate chance to beat Marshall this year, the same chance a lot of other teams will have. I watched the William & Mary game on TV. Brooks tore through Marshall's interior like they were standing still, torching them for something like 160 yds, which I assume is a career high for him. W&M's O-line (whose run blocking was a glaring weakness in 2004) basically bullied the Herd on Thursday. And it's pretty much all the same people as 2004. Like I said before, if we can't at least run at will on Marshall, we have no business fielding a 1-A team.

Eastang, Wish I could join you in Huntington (god, I never thought I'd hear those words come out of my mouth).

Actually, I doubt we'd have a chance against William or Mary this year either.

And even if we could run at will, Marshall would probably just replace him with steve or bob and f--- up our ridiculous gameplan anyway.

I know it is early but FYI William and Mary has a Sagarin rating 15 points higher than ours. I would not assume Marshall is weak because they struggled vs. W&M.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!!

W&M lost their All everything QB from last year who led them to the 1-AA finals. But they have a lot of very big linemen back. Since W&M is my other alma mater (grad school), thank goodness we don't play them. I'll probably take my neice down to the Burg later this fall to see the school.
