Just wondering....I'm out of state, and am not around but my question is regarding Chris Phillips. I'm not saying he is a savior, but my question is if he is hurt, or just pissed off the coaches. I have read that many of you feel he is more than capable to qb the team, I'm wondering why he hasn't had chances. In my opinion, if we can't beat baylor, then we are going to have trouble all year, so what is there to lose? Just wondering...
Supposedly the senior QBs have a better chance of winning and more experience. As the season rolls on and if the wins don't start coming I would expect to see Phillips in there getting ready for next season.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Didn't we already do that? Isn't that why we played him in every game starting with the Tulsa game two years ago? Isn't that why he was the starter until he got "hurt" at the OSU game last year? Put him in, he has had plenty of time to get experience. This is going to be like Tate Wallis and Richard Bartel all over again. Even if Phillips has more talent, he probably won't play.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Phillips is coming off shoulder surgery, so was out spring, and didn't play much in the fall practices because was sick. I wondere why he is third string...
If he is able to get his strength back up and show what he was showing in the fall and spring last year before he was hurt, then he will be in the mix. Until then, he won't be, which is why he is third on the depth chart.
I’ve never posted asking why Phillips dropped to third string, but I’ve often wondered. The guy single handedly kept us in the game against TCU last year. Now he is third string behind two guys who go 9 of 26 for 106 yards against Baylor??? It is very puzzling. And just as puzzling, why Cory Muse was not on the field?? You don’t have to be a football genius to see that Muse is one of the best defensive players on the SMU roster. Regardless of position, he has to be on the field.
Phillips was not out during the spring-he had easily the best spring game of all 3 QB hitting over 65% of his passes with scrubs. According to the DMN he also highlited the first scrimmage. And remember Phillips game is not even allowed in scrimmages - tackling a running QB. Then in the last two weeks of fall practices, Bennett narrowed the race to Eckert and Romo. And exactly what sickness has he had in the Fall-that has not been reported on this board before.
I thought Philips wasn't at full strength in the spring, and that was why he was third string through the spring... and I believe he was also limited in what he could throw. I read or heard somewhere about Phillips being sick. I believe that Bennett discussed it in either the press conference last week or in one of the media day things... I do remember it though.
hmm I haven't heard or read that but what I want to know is that if he really is still suffering from rotar cuff injury why do we have all the people [deleted] about him not showing up for 7 on 7 tournament et al. He sure didn't look out of shape to me either the other Nite. Phillips was 15-19 in the spring game for 130 yards. Don't know what he was for the first scrimmage but it was reported that he was one of the highlites. How does that not at least get him some consideration for the starting job for the last 2 weeks of fall practice-I don't understand that. Guys like Tony Eckert all 6-0 of him always look good in 7 on 7 Tiurnaments and no tacling drills. That ain't Phillips game. It ain't Vince Young's game either-but it ain't real football either. After watching Florida St. sack Miami's QB 9 times last Nite I wonder how many sacks Eckert would have if we actually face a team with good athletes on defense like TCU or A&M.
We are gonna find out. The frustrating thing to me, and I mentioned this, is that when the offense moved against Baylor, it was Romo running the same offense that Phillips ran the last five games of 2003. I would much rather have Phillips back there than Romo, if only because Phillips might be here next year.
------------------ BLOG, Chris is certainly athletic and he'll be a good addition next season. But Romo is way fast than CP. No way CP gets to the endzone on the TD play scored by Romo. Nobody even touched him.
And all I am saying is that obviously if he performed that well and was at full health, he obviously would have been involved in the QB competition... unless I hear concrete evidence, I am just not much of a proponent of conspiracy theories.
Look who is doing the Phillips' backstabbing-it comes directly from people very close to the athletic program. I believe its coming straight from the coaching staff because they sure haven't denied any of the comments that have repeatedly been made. I think Phillips is in the Dog House so we have to suffer with two Dogs at QB.

I wonder why people post such ridiculous nonsense..... What was the date of Phillips surgery? Exactly what part of fall practice did he miss with this illness? Which days, specifically? Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
Already looking forward to seeing Willis next year. Perhaps Phillips will be out of the dog house by then.. but if not.. that kid would be fun to watch.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
No doubt the Phillips situation is very puzzling. The #28th ranked dual-threat QB in the nation with offers from Arkansas and Kansas St. chooses SMU. He starts the final five games of his freshman year and shows nice promise with very little talent around him. He gets injured in the second or third game of 04 against TCU to end his season and a year later, supposedly healthy, he’s third string behind two JUCO QBs who come to SMU without any other D-I offers. Then these two JUCO transfers go 9 of 27 for 108 yards against one of the worst programs in the nation and Phillips still isn’t even mentioned for the starting job?? I can’t explain that......I wish someone would.
