God bless the 1500...Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: God bless the 1500...I love how the new fans enjoy bashing the CIT team from a few years back, but that is as much fun as we've had in a long time. I actually enjoyed that run more than this one due to my expectations for the team. This year is exhilarating, but also stressful lol.
Re: God bless the 1500...
It's just low-hanging fruit. I agree with you though. I think we would've won it if Papa wasn't injured in the first half against Santa Clara. (I still think that foul was a cheap shot...) It is nice to be looking at the "real" tournament this year though.
Re: God bless the 1500...Thanks to the 1500 for their support of doh and their opposition to the hiring of lb. You gave us a 28 point game and a loss to a d3 school. Great going guys. Now you want to get rid of the new 6, 000. Excellent. Keep up the good work.
Re: God bless the 1500...Are the 1500 suddenly AD by committee? Come on man get real! Check the archives, I was on board with Larry Brown from the start. I am also not embarrassed to say that I thought there were other good options. However, no one could have exceeded Larry Brown's results to date, and that includes Pitino, Calipari, Boeheim, and Krzyzewski.
Re: God bless the 1500...
In fairness, I don't think the "1,500" supported Doh so much as they supported the players. Hardly anyone disagreed that Doherty needed to go. (Although I and others have repeatedly admitted that our reservations about hiring the current staff were misplaced...) That said, there is something to this...
Re: God bless the 1500...
Hardly anyone disagreed. . . Travis Bickle might have disagreed with your statement that Robobdoh had to go 2015 INDIANAPOLIS OR BUST
Re: God bless the 1500...Doherty is a class act and I am glad he was associated to SMU, but I don't think anyone thought it wasn't time for him to go.
Re: God bless the 1500...I've been here since the early 90s. Born and raised in Memphis so basketball is in my blood. I said before the season started I would be absolutely ecstatic with 20 wins and the NIT. We have far exceeded my expectations this year.
Re: God bless the 1500...Well, hope you don't mind if I stay but I'm sick of watching the team [deleted] down their leg. Worse yet, watch Brown get out-coached...never thought I'd see that day.
Re: God bless the 1500..."Any club that would have me as a member is one I wouldn't care to join."
.....Groucho. Party at The Wopper!
Re: God bless the 1500...
I agree, they were a lot of fun to follow because they were such overachievers. Had Papa not gone down to injury, I think they could have won it all. For those who criticized, if I recall correctly, after they had won 2 tournament games they accomplished something no other SMU basketball team had in some 40 years.
Re: God bless the 1500...
Agree again. Coach Doh was a hard working recruiter who actually landed some quality talent. He signed players who had offers from Kentucky, Louisiville, OU, Clemson, Virginia and other big time programs. He was also an excellent Ambassodor for our school. We all knew it was time for him to leave, but there wasn't the vitriol that exists today with our other coach.
Re: God bless the 1500...
You have that hysterically backwards
Re: God bless the 1500...
Lol, at least you admit you've been here since brown. There are people in this thread masquerading as long time fans, and I've never seen them before this year. It's easy to follow a winner, not so easy watching losses to ark pine bluff, and showing the next game. Those guys have my respect, not that it matters. As for Brown, he was out coached a ton last year.
Re: God bless the 1500...I cannot claim to be one of the 1500 because distance precludes me from attending games as the true 1500 did. The game around Christmas or News Years day a few years ago with just a handful of fans was the true test. I admire those that showed for that one. But I have followed and attended when I could since 1968.
I will say that since 1968, the loss to Temple has left me feeling worse, even moreso than the loss to Georgetown in the NCAA tourney years back, than any other loss. Do not know why, but this one hurts badly. USF did not bother me like this. I need these kids to get back on track and handle Houston with confidence to get my mind right again. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
