Re: Basketball recruiting question
This staff is certainly getting more publicity due to Brown's history. That gives the definite impression of more outreach. Seems more effort in the local area is being done and obstacles that existed in the past seem to be falling.

Re: Basketball recruiting question
People are comparing him and the hoops staff to football staff. The lack of action in football makes the hoops staff seem like supermen.hoopmanx wrote:You guys use the term outwork in an interesting way. Do you really think our current staff is on the road anymore than our last staff?

Both talent and coaching. I like Doh but from my untrained eye, he never settled on a system, had weird rotations, put guys in the dog house, and just never seemed comfortable in what he was doing in the sideline.hoopmanx wrote:Not sure if they are out coaching or out-talenting. LB may get out coached from time to time (and not much this year), but he is consistent and an upgrade as a coach and definitely with talent. That is a winning combo.

When you only have 8 scholarship players on a roster, even Red Auerbach would be outcoachedhoopmanx wrote:Not sure if they are out coaching or out-talenting. The guy never takes a day off. Not even to watch his feature on Real Sports....

I don't know the specifics about Doh's staff, but it's hard to believe they were on the road as much as LB and co. Maybe they were, in which case that is damn impressive.
Not to beat a dead horse, but how is it that your hoops staff, trying to land a handful of kids, can spend 500x the amount of time on the road/recruiting than an entire football staff hoping to land 10x the number of players...

Barefield committed, so that's 1 down and not on your list.
For those of you with knowledge about the local kids (maybe you've seen them play), would you rather get the Thomas/Gilder package or the Davis/Hogg package? (not sure if they are REALLY packages but just sayin'). Then is McClure with the Davis "camp" and Grandstaff with the "Thomas" camp?

You nailed it. My thoughts exactly, although Killen & Ike showed real improvement under Doh.Treadway21 wrote:I like Doh but from my untrained eye, he never settled on a system, had weird rotations, put guys in the dog house, and just never seemed comfortable in what he was doing in the sideline.

There was a YouTube clip of Doh's 'coaching' from a game @ Marshall. Classic Doh.

Just me. . . I would rather have Elijah Thomas in a Mustangs uniform. . . If Admon Gilder follows Thomas to SMU, than so be it.
