Aww, screw it. We should play nothing but a 1-AA schedule and the only way to do that is to drop to 1-AA. Now's the time--we've got no hope in D-1, and we'd have probably the best 1-AA stadium in America, and be able to attract the best 1-AA recruits with it (probably the same guys we get now anyway). And we could throw all the emphasis behind the men's basketball program and focus on making that the premier sport at SMU.

How many of the pony faithful would come to the games then? How many of the donors that are keeping the program afloat would keep giving money? How many students that do care would cease to care if we dropped to I-AA? I don't know about many of you but I would probably never go to another game if we dropped to I-AA and played an exclusively I-AA schedule, a game here and there is ok to get us back on our feet, but not the entire schedule. I would be willing to bet that if we did that, the program would end up being dropped in ten years because what little support (physical and financial) we have now would quickly evaporate. Just wait until next year when we play those I-AA teams, (even if they are good and promise a competitive game) the stands will be empty. Not because those teams aren't good, but just because those who have followed SMU football will care even less about them then they did about the WAC.

Newsflash--nobody is doing any of that stuff now. At least not to the extent of any consequence.

That's my point. The ten people we have in the stands now, and the few Lamar Hunt types that keep giving us money would stop. If you are going to demote the football team out of I-A you might as well just drop it all together and save everybody a little time and heartache.

Yeah, but at least we'd still get to use that shiny new stadium for something. Although I suppose we could drop it altogether and use the stadium for soccer. Okay, you've convinced me--lets drop it altogether and put the money into basketball.

One at a time now

I was referring to the I-AA schedule, what did you think I was referring to?

So was I, we play two of them next season. Unless Arkansas State isnt I-AA, I know Texas State is.

No doubt about it-what makes it very disconcerting is that game was just sitting there for the taking. Poor coaching decisions, unbelievably incompetent play at QB position by players who should not even be starting at this level let this one slip through our fingers.

Don't send 'em to my alma mater...we've got plenty of former Div. 1 QBs on the roster right now!

How BAD is it at SMU? A poll of Bennett's worst opening day lost and you EXCLUDE the 58-10 whipping by TTech. To me it was at least as bad as the Baylor loss.....Navy was the worst.
