SMU Schedule / Weather Factorit's not the "end of the world".....
but why does SMU begin the year with two home games when we all know it is going to be near 100 degrees in Dallas? why not schedule 2 or 3 away games at first like TCU did this year? Sure TCU is playing those away games in hot places, but by doing so they are basically letting their opponents fans suffer the heat and saving their home games for their fans for nicer cooler Fall days. I know several older SMU Fans with "blue hair" wives that stayed home "because it was just too hot" this past weekend. Yeah the TCU game starts later and it should be slightly cooler, but thats because of TV last minute change not scheduling. I say the first two SMU games should always be away games, just so the BLVD and game experience is more pleasant for our fans. Look you have to have a certain amount of away games, so why not try to place as many of those away games early in the schedule knowing more games in slightly cooler temps will make for a better gameday for the SMU fans. Re: SMU Schedule / Weather Factor
They show up in plenty of southern cities to watch good football. The heat is not the problem.
re: That's why SMU scheduled the games at night when its cooler.
Yeah it was really "cool" at kickoff for the Baylor game! LOL Of course these games are at night so people dont need fluid IV's to watch the game.....duh......but that doesn't mean there isn't a better plan.....like try to schedule the first two games away. If you are going to have six home games a year why not have as many of the home games as possible when it's below 90 degrees? This isn't brain surgery! C-ya @ Milos!
re: The heat is not the problem
Who said the heat is "the" problem? It's just common sense! Hello? ....Anybody Home? C-ya @ Milos!
This is one of the dumbest rants ever. You just want it to be cooler? Why? For your own personal edification?
They have complained in the past that we too often start on the road and by the time SMU has home games, the season is effectively over. The only reason to worry about the heat is if it negatively effects attendance or negatively impacts the players on the field. Scheduling the first two games away could do the same thing. Further the more games you schedule in October and November, the more likely it is to rain. And then people won't come because of the rain. I personally didn't mind the heat last week at all. I thought it was actually pretty comfortable all things considered.
Let's face it, with all of the fans that TCU will be brining over to Amon Carter Stadium East this Saturday, it will practically be a home game for them.
First, non-conference games are generally played in Aug-September. It is nearly impossible to schedule a home non-conference game for October-November. We have adopted a regional non-conference schedule, get used to hot September games. Secondly, conference games would be no picnic over labor day weekend. Shreveport, Houston, Tulsa, Birmingham, El Paso are at least as hot if not hotter. Marshall might have been okay since they're in the Mountains. Night games are the usual practice, but as we all know it cuts into fraternity parties and student social life in general which is why they like to put some day games in their so that students don't have to choose between the football game and going to a frat party.
This is one of the dumbest rants ever.
No one of the dumbest rants ever is being in denial of the obvious. It clearly makes for a more enjoyable fan gameday experience if the temp is in the 80's and not the high 90's. Under your logic, if weather is not an issue, why not have the Baylor game last week at noon?. You just want it to be cooler? Uh yeah.....do you not turn on the A/C in your car? Wow man...."you just want to be cooler" How strange is that? Why? For your own personal edification? Yeah if you are going to have 6 home games why is it so weird to have the home games when its a bit cooler? Maybe we should stop selling ice with the drinks....to prove "how tough we all are"? They have complained in the past that we too often start on the road and by the time SMU has home games, the season is effectively over. Whats the difference this year Bozo? SMU is going to be 0-2 and the first two games were at home, so under that logic.....the "season is over" and we had to endure the ridiculous heat. The only reason to worry about the heat is if it negatively effects attendance or negatively impacts the players on the field. No there is something called comfort......we all enjoy little comforts in our life every single day.[/i] And if you are going to have six home games a year, why not tinker with the schedule a tiny bit to help make the SMU Game day experience a bit more comfortable? Scheduling the first two games away could do the same thing. Further the more games you schedule in October and November, the more likely it is to rain. And then people won't come because of the rain. The heat is a "for sure" the rain is only a possibility. I personally didn't mind the heat last week at all. I thought it was actually pretty comfortable all things considered. Well i suppose you are in good company, because it looks like the administration agrees. Of course logic says 85 degrees is much better than 95 degrees, but hey......whats logic got to do with anything?....LOL C-ya @ Milos!
Excellent point, here is the current schedule: Sep. 3-Baylor Sep. 10-TCU Sep. 17-at A&M Sep. 24-Tulane Oct. 1-at Marshall Oct. 8-at UAB Oct. 15-E. Carolina Oct. 22-at Tulsa Nov. 5-Rice Nov. 12-at Houston Nov. 26-UTEP Obviously, it was in the 90's in every place except West Virginia and North Carolina. Go nuts.
Better yet lets do it like the TV guys and wait until the week of the game and see when and where we should play. They could announce on Wednesday that we are going to play in Minnesota because the weather is nice that week. In November we could schedule games in Hawaii or at least in Las Vegas. Weather is an intrical part of the game. Weather should be used for a home field advantage. If it is hot where you play you condition yourself to handle it better than those who visit. Don't you think that Green Bay would rather have a home game in December than be traveling to Miami to play. It may be miserable for the fans, but the field should be an advantage for the team. Fans are supposed to support, not whine because their shirt is getting wet, or their blue hair is running.
re: Obviously, it was in the 90's in every place except West Virginia and North Carolina. Go nuts.
Obviously you either did not read my post or you continue to miss the point. I stated in my earlier post that of course it is going to be hot everywhere. The point isn't that we go play somewhere cool. The point is to make other fans suffer the heat instead of us. Kind of like we put the opposing team facing the sun. Why not use that same logic in scheduling? Hey if possible make the opponents fans suffer through hotter than hell games and have our fans more comfortable a few weeks later? Are you "against comfort" per se? Are you arguing that starting the season with an away game or two is "not do-able" or is somehow a negative? As my first post stated...."its not the end of the world".....just something we should strive for or keep in mind. In other words if you have 6 home games, try not to blow your wad by having two of them in near 100 degree weather IF POSSIBLE. I mean if you are going to have a certain amount of games, why not be smart about it? Some are claiming it's impossible......it seems like in the last few years.....SMU had a similar opening schedule with the first and/or second game an away game. It can be done, it just takes someone with persistence and an appreciation of how fine details add up to the whole package. C-ya @ Milos!
I'd rather schedule the games at home when its hot BECAUSE the blue-hairs stay home and I get to sit in their seats on the 50.
Believe it or not, some fans actually go to away games and scheduling home or away does not matter to them. I do have a suggestion for you, though. Get a box or seats in that air conditioned enclosure next season.
