Stallion, you are right on! All due respect Hoopmanx, but your AAU Gangsta, high than thou attitude gets old. You tell all of us that we do not know anything, that we are not educated basketball fans, that we are not a good basketball fan base. Give me a break. That is insulting and uneducated. A few weeks back you are posting that we have no chance at Myles Turner. Today you post "The biggest misconception is that we were ever out of it." Which is it? Your opinions are all over the place. Why your change of heart? Please explain yourself. We want to hear it.

I don't doubt that you work or have worked on the AAU Circuit and are privy to AAU things, and you share some good tidbits about recruits. On occasion you post good info on recruits. Thank you. As Stallion has stated earlier in this thread, you haven't explained your opinion about what Myles Turner is looking for in his choice. You have just criticized others. Other than the obvious "relationships matter" comment, you have not explained what you think about the recruiting of Turner and what will influence his choice.

You continue to say that we as fans do not know anything and that wins and loses do not matter. So if we lost every game the rest of the year, that wouldn't matter? Give me a break! Of course it matters.

You want my uneducated opinion? LOL. Hopefully Myles will recognize that our program is on the rise. Larry Brown is going to win Coach of the Year. We have a new Moody. We have a re-energized fanbase. We have a great school. We have a young team. We are close to home. He has an opportunity next year to join Mudiay and potentially win a National Championship.

Since you have so much more insight on recruiting than the rest of us I would be interested in you sharing your educated opinion.

I don't understand why we try to be all high and mighty with regard to education. If something prepares you for a career, whatever that career may be...that's the best education you can get. Period

This ^^^.

A lot of BS and hypocrisy from NCAA types. It's all business.

Hell, someone wanted Manuel cut after a great performance last night. As for games attended, I've been to tons in my life, not many the past few years since I'm basically never in Dallas except for grassroots events

I wanted him to graduate early, but I like your idea of cutting him.

Bow down to Basketball Jesus who takes one pedestrian performance by one of our worst players and uses it as an argument for an ignorant fan base. Ignorant to me would be ignoring his 20 other horrible games and putting is UH performance on a pedestal.

Might want to focus on fixing the speed skate suit issue...

Even if he left early, which he shouldn't and won't, how do you think that benefits us? We already have more scholarships available for 2014 than we are likely to use.

Cuban showing up helps but Bush showing meaning nothing to the recruits. Bush excited the GOP supporters in the audience but not the recruits. Since Cuban owns an NBA franchise and could draft them that is a positive.

You wouldn't want to meet a president or ex-prez? I think that's pretty damn sweet, I'd be excited if I was a recruit. Maybe not as much as Cuban but you don't meet presidents every day either. I don't like him or BO but I would have definitely been pumped to meet either if I had the chance.

I am a 26 and a very liberal, but it's cool as hell that W is there.

Good god are you tiresome. We do have a fan base mostly ignorant of the gritty details of basketball, myself and your rah-rah nonsense included.

I don't resent anyone for not caring about basketball until now and I'm enjoying the excitement. But we more or less only have a couple folks around here with deep backgrounds (and connections) in basketball versus a tide of sudden armchair experts throwing out echo chamber opinions. Nothing unusual that people want to share their feelings but let's try to slowly raise the level of discourse without getting our "unique snowflake" feelings hurt.

Also, Hoopman actually did list 6 things he felt were important to recruiting; read more, talk less.

Prideful Pony... your quote, "We do have a fan base mostly ignorant of the gritty details of basketball". Speak for yourself. Don't worry Prideful Pony, no one's feelings were hurt. And no Hoopmanx did not list 6 reasons in this thread. Instead he decides to talk down about the SMU Faithful. If I missed it please enlighten me. And yes Hoopmanx has said over a week ago that we have no shot at Turner. And yes today Hoopmanx did say that "The biggest misconception is that we were ever out of it." You cannot have it both ways. You are either in the know or you are not.

Compliments to OBF as he is able to stay true to himself, have an opinion, share his basketball opinions with Mustang Nation, educate all of us on recruiting etc. and never talk down to Mustang Nation. All of us can learn a thing or two from OBF's posts. See this thread. He is definitely in the know.

It is a shame that the same posters who want to criticize other posters are not willing to actually share their basketball opinions. I thought that was why we are here?

I appreciate the props, but I'm in Mustang Nation! Haha, I try not to blur my allegiance to Ohio State and give an unbiased, truthful opinion. If anyone ever feels like I'm being harsh on the Ponies, ask me my thoughts on tOSU, that should erase any doubt that it's coming from an unbiased place

And to the above post, what is hoopman referring to? I'm missing the context, I missed the post.

Harry, completely agree, super cool stuff. I'd venture to say that maybe one other school in the nation has had the president or a former president at a game this year. I think any recruit would be ecstatic to meet GW regardless of what your political opinion is of him. I'm sure the guy is cool as hell and would be a great person to kick back a few cold ones over a round of golf with.

It's us normal people trying to justify being better than them or putting value into our life. They're the best at their trade, their trade happens to be entertainment. I've never heard someone get on Jerry Seinfeld for a top tier education. He may have gone to school so that might be a bad example, but I'm sure there are plenty of comedians that don't have a college degree. Certain professions don't require them and they make a heck of a lot more than a lot of people with the diploma, including myself. If I had a 40 inch vertical and was 6'6, I sure as heck wouldn't have my Finance or Accounting degree, that I can guarantee.

StandUp, when you first showed up here you posted the most inane questions as thread topics; you're going to have a hard time convincing me that you're intimately familiar with the ins and outs of basketball strategy, recruiting, and the like when you begin by asking the simplest of questions.

There's nothing wrong with that as a lot of us around here are still learning the intricacies, but let's not pretend that we're a bunch of Coach K's and Tom Izzo's objectively discussing the merits of the 3-2 zone. Not to mention that your reading comprehension isn't doing you any favors either:

I don't have the patience to fact check you but people can be in the know and still get things wrong. Credibility isn't a binary thing.

Short memory?
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
