bet on SMU against TCU

Postby Bocephus » Wed Sep 07, 2005 1:39 am

I think Phil Bennett is a poor coach. However, he always pulls a game out of nowhere that surprises you. I think this game is it. I am not sure SMU will win, but I definitely think they will stay within 16 or so of TCU. The Horned Frogs are too busy patting themselves on the back right now to think about y'all.

Which game has that been in his 6 wins as the SMU coach?

all the games he won at the end of last year.

BTW, since reading today that Bennett has changed his starting QB once again, I rescind my suggestion. Bennett simplyt cannot stick with a single QB. He never allows his Qbs to get in a rhythm. I predict he will be fired at the end of this season.

Staying within 16 points of TCU is not exactly saying we have a good team. Losing to a team with many similarities to SMU by 16 points really is frustrating. I do hope Bennett is fired at the end of the year and that the next hire can get energy and excitement back into the program.

I'm all for the Gary Gibbs hire. Is there any real shot?

I predict this poster can not make up his/her own mind. Who is he to criticize Bennett?

Actually Bennett changed his QB after what, one drive or was it two?

Long live the spread-bone.

And Copeland too? It won't do any good to get rid of Bennett without first Copeland.
Just send 'da money.

It won't do any good to fire either of them if the university isn't willing to make the commitment to getting us competitive again, doing everything it can to get us there.

Ponies will cover. Romo will have the same success running that Phillips had a couple of years ago, and when the QB revolving door begins, Eckert will look like a photo negative of his erratic self last week. Pony defense brings another better-than-expected performance.

TCU 23
SMU 16

Prove me wrong, Ponies -- knock off the froggies!

Yeah, the teams have many similarities. They both wear helmets and uniforms, they both get 85 scholarships, and they both play football. Apart from these things, what other similarities did you have in mind?

We both have a hideously ugly campus - wait, that ain't right
We both play in oversized high school stadiums - neither is that
We both play in Fort Worst - Where the Waste begins - Oh, we play in the beautiful and scenic Park Cities.
We play all those teams on the West Coast that nobody cares about - oh wait, that was last year.

Actually Froggie, I believe that the point is that both teams have similar backgrounds and despite the fact that TCU is up and we are currently down, the roles have been reversed many times. Throw in the post death penalty years and SMU is still better historically. Will that win us any gamesa? Heck no, but to listen to the likes of TCU or baylor act like they are the next Notre Dame or Miami is patently funny.

If Bennett starts Romo, we will have a better chance to win.

No, it isn't. TCU's campus says "university in the Southwest" and SMU's campus says "transparent Harvard wannabe."

Correct. SMU is the one with the tinker-toy stands and the small-time capacity that they never fill.

We both play in Fort Worst - Where the Waste begins - Oh, we play in the beautiful and scenic Park Cities.

What is scenic about the Park Cities? Central Expressway? Vroom-vroom, hack-hack!

Yet here I sit in my spacious hillside home in southwest Fort Worth. I look out past my swimming pool to the golf course in the valley below, then miles of rising ranchland beyond, with a brilliant sunset silhouetting a windmill on the opposite hill. Cactus and wildflowers are scattered across the slope. Soon I will see deer and wild turkeys passing by on the way to their nightly feed. When the sun slips below the opposite hill, the fireflies will begin rising in waves across my little acre, and I'll hear an occasional coyote howl as the moon rises.

(sigh) I can hardly stand all this ugliness.

Throw in the post death penalty years and SMU is still better historically.

How so? The head-to-head record favors TCU. We both have a Heisman winner, but TCU has two MNC's to SMU's one. (See NCAA website.) TCU holds two NCAA rushing records (both single-game and season). TCU has been in the national top 10 more times than SMU, TCU has been to more bowl games than SMU, and TCU has put together a string of consecutive bowl appearances that SMU has never managed.

Exactly where do you think SMU is "better historically"?

Well, actually, TCU's campus does look like a circa WW2 military outpost, or perhaps a prison camp.

But I digress. What I really came on to ask is, please do not come over here and talk smack this week. We got nuthin. Please have mercy on us. We have to follow the Mustangs every single game. Mercy. Please, we cannot respond. Would you kick a puppy too?
