Yep, wasn't picking up UNC's. A lot of ways to define success. Back to talking about SMU's success. Pony up!
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
Yeah, Cuban has done wonders for the Mavs organization since buying the team, I won't dispute that. He just acts likes a spoiled brat and it often reminds me of the phrase "Money can't buy class" 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
The gift and curse of a sixty-four team, single elimination tournament. Wouldn't have it any other way, but you'd have to be crazy to argue that Ali Farokhmanesh and UNI were actually a better team than Xavier Henry and Kansas in 2010.
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
If it were about better teams, every FF would be 1-3's. Match ups and luck are the X factors. Pony up!
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
Not always true. UK in '12 was the clearcut best team and they just rolled over everyone en route to the national championship. No one was going to beat them.
Re: Myles Turner-SMUNo surprise that Hoopmanx is all over the place. Today he wants to tell us (once again) that he has known all along that Turner was coming to SMU. Truth is that a few weeks ago he stated that we were never in it. I am with you Stallion. Thank you for referencing facts to back your opinions about unofficial visits. Let me give you some advice Hoopmanx, don't play the race card criticizing "gangsta" references, stay educated and think Capone.
Mustang Nation... Hoopmanx can insinuate what goes on behind closed doors, but he never seems to give any concrete facts to back up what he knows. I am not asking Hoopmanx to give us any SMU Examples. How about other schools? How about Kentucky Unofficial Visits? How about Kansas Unofficial Visits? Other school's unofficial visits, coaches, player names, recruiters. Since Hoopmanx is such a self-anointed "big baller", and has sat in on all of these "in home" recruiting visits (that he speaks of). How about telling us the names of the players, coaches and handlers with whom you have had dealings? Since he knows so much about how a recruit decides where to go to school. How about giving us player names and reasons why they chose their schools. What was the deciding factor? That would be interesting. I want to believe you Hoopmanx. I do. You always talk a big game, you just never seem to have the facts to back anything up. Then you actually have the nerve to put others down who are passionate about SMU Basketball. Will never make sense to me.
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
Still luck, not one other 1-seed was in the Final 4 that year. They didn't play the best on the way to the title. The 2 seed in their own region got upset first game of the tourney. Even so, I do agree UK was the best by far, but that's a rarity, exception to the norm.

Re: Myles Turner-SMU
Kansas is as elite as it gets. 10 straight conference championships as well mixed in with 5 Elite 8 appearances in the last 10 years. That's absurd. Winning a national championship for any team is a fluke, pure luck.[/quote] Florida has 5 elite 8s, two final fours and 2 nattys in the last ten....clearly the best team of the last decade Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2

Re: Myles Turner-SMU
Man, I've done my personal background, chock w/details so many times on this board. If anyone still cares, that's what PM is all about. As for Turner, I've never ever said Smu was out of it, ever. I may have said I didn't think we'd eventually get him, but I've long said that DFW grassroots types are the first to say we're in it. Ask guys like BigE, Stacey houston, tony Johnson etc. They all follow on twitter, my main dude.. As for a white middle age lawyer using the term gangsta about apparel and aau types, again defer to Big E, Stacey etc. They'll stick that veiled racism where the sun don't shine. if you think an ebonically spelled, derogatory term, thrown at a predominantly urban industry isn't racist, don't know what to tell you. Better stopwhile you're losing. Here's one really fun example of an unofficial. A team that shall not be named, brought Born Ready to town on grassroots apparel cash. Lance was put up w/a female host, spent the entire weekend on campus, except the lone trip to the apparel companies headquarters, where he was schmoozed by execs, and a prototype shoe wasunveiled in his honor. The Born Ready model, contingent on his signing w said school, would go into production after he declared for the draft the following year, where BR would then become part of the grassroots roster. That night, he ate at the most expensive Italian restaurant in the city, surrounded by shoe execs and coaching staff. Who do you think pays for Africans to go on unofficials, when their families are from small towns w/o much money? See ater majok. Asst coaches routinely have their own slush funds, off the books, often not in their name, established in separate cities. How many special recruiting publications, run by summer ball folks, do staffs subscribe too at $300-1000 a pop for basically no info, other than access? How many aau programs take 3rd part donations to offset travel costs? Do you know how many teams actually have full sponsorship vs partial or just gear at cost? It takes big money to float a program April through July, traveling every weekend, if your expenses aren't covered by the EYBl or the association or 3stripes. Here's an in home I sat in w/the most disingenuous sob the planet has, john Thompson. He was recruiting one of my kids in Vegas at the time. He sat in front of this kid, pulled the race card out time after time. told him to his face, that his newborn infant, would be better off w/o daddy around, until he learned what it was like to be a strong black man, under his tutelage. He committed to Georgetown and transferred two years later to unlv. About 3 years ago, I had a coaching friend call me, who currently sits on he bench of a top 10 team. He was asking how he could get to a certain Vegas player to visit/commit. I was asked to find out about his handlers and get his police blotter. Turns out, kid played on a new fangled aau team that was started by an officer in the gang division of lvpd. This guy would essentially comb the at risk ballers who were known to be gang affiliated or threatening to go that way, put them on a traveling team and kept them straight. The kid in question had no record, at least that would stop a recruitment. After coach had all the info, we had to figure out what they needed just to get an official. It cost to sit w his handlers, not even talk to the kid. If you didn't pay the sit down fee, you were out. Nobody balked. When the kid showed up to his official he was wearing Baylor gear, whom he was scheduled to visit next. The coach knew that was that, tried to change his mind, but off he went to Baylor, only to commit hours after he arrived.. Say hello to back story of Pierre Jackson. Oh yeah eat a turd standup.

Re: Myles Turner-SMUThanks for sharing hoopmanx - I did not know the extent to which handlers controlled EVERY PART of the process. I'm sure it's gotten significantly [worse?] more commonplace as the AAU scene has exploded over the past 10-15 years.

Re: Myles Turner-SMU
It's not more prevalent, it's just different. Take the Pierre Jackson story for example. Yes, they clearly took money for Jackson, but how else was this guy going to support his aau squad, and look at the good it's doing. Essentially he's taking coach/ booster cash and using it to keep kids out of gangs, monitor them, feed them, in some cases house and cloth them, as well as offering summer ball exposure so their talents can be realized. This is all in an effort to get out and defeat the cycle. Maybe it's ethically questionable, I'm not sure, but how different is it really from securing the mudiay commit by offering his brother who can't ball at this level at all, not close. That's like 200k in tuition room/board to get eman. Cool, I'm down w it, but don't get holier than thou. Recognize and move on
