skurtn wrote:3 things I hope individuals who like to design uniforms should use as a "done criteria" are:
  • The mascot for our uniforms is the Mustang, pointed left. It's red, always red.
  • Our shade of red and blue are precise colors; Harvard Red and Yale Blue, no changing them.
  • We're the SMU Mustangs, not "Mustangs". The school logo should be priority #1, when practical.
The rest is creative freedom.

Yeah, sorry. I cocked up pasting skurtn's original post. I'm not sure if he's confused. No question I am.

Lose the stripes on the jersey sleeve. Otherwise these looks great!

Interesting, I've never heard the Mustang has to point left.

That is to distinguish it from the Ford Mustang emblem which is pointed to the right. That was a condition from Ford allowing us to use their "mustang" image which is copyrighted.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

exactly
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I don't know about that... The grill of every mustang to come off the line since 1964 has the mustang pointing left.

I may be dyslexic, or you may be full of [deleted], but if your goal was to get me to waste my afternoon googling car pics, well played sir... well played...

Look at the dang helmet. The pony is going to the left on one side and the right on the other.
Some people simply forget just how bad it was...

The last two on the right should be our Away and Home uniforms. Wear the red for homecoming, and the other two use them for bowl games. Put SMU in all of them like the last two.

Use the SMU arched logo: Image

The answer is simple. The left and right is relative to the surface it is mounted on and not relative to how you see it facing the surface. If you look at the mustang on the uniform it appears to be running to the right, but it is sewed on to the uniform running to the left of the person wearing it. On the Mustang grill it is attached running towards the cars right fender. As you look at the grill it is running to your left. I have a jacket with an SMU Mustang on the front of it and it is running towards my left arm...get it? 8)

That is a special case...it would look plain stupid to have it running towards your back while you are running forward. In any other situation, it runs towards the left relative to the surface it is mounted on.

I used that particular font because that is what was used on the pony express era uniforms and our current basketball uniform (our basketball font is actually arched, not straight).

I do agree we need to stick with a particular word mark.

Just curious. On the current roster Jeremy Johnson is # 15 and IMO a good choice for a number on a proposed uniform. But who, historically, has worn that number?

Karch Kiraly wore 15, but I don't think he went to SMU...

ALEX LIFESON wrote:Interesting, but why cant we just use the friking PONY EXPRESS era uniforms???

No kidding. The obvious answer seems so easy.

Am I right that this year's uniforms are expected to be the same style as the Pony Express years, but in red? Blue will always be the best option, but if it's red, with no stripes and bigger block lettering, that will be a drastic improvement.
