It can't hurt, but I don't think it addresses our biggest problem, and that is location. The Big XII already has four schools in TX and doesn't need us, and with A&M in the SEC that conference is looking hungrily at the NC and VA markets. The other 3 majors are too far away, in my opinion, to be interested.

But if we win a NC or two with Larry, someone may take another look.

Syracuse was added to ACC for lacrosse. Duh.

That actually is a reason Rutgers and Maryland were added. But just goes back to money so the B10 can form a conference for LAX

Good point, that's going to be a big problem for many other G5 schools wanting to move up.

We need the Pac 10 to want to push east for exposure and improve their bball profile. hell, if they took Utah, they could take us. With DFW being the fastest growing market in the US, good things are possible for SMU. Invite Larry Scott to the Louisville game, haha.

Klemm will be hired as our next FB HC, bring in a lot of west coast talent/exposure, and get us back to winning ways. In 4 years, LB steps down with 1 NC (2 final four appearances), Klemm has our FB in top 25 and we join the pac 10 (whatever the number will be then).

Then we win the Rose Bowl before I die!!

With the ACC out of play and no reason for the Big 12 to pick SMU - I see the BIG as the only P5 conference that could possibly be interested in SMU.

BIG has to do something about the quality of their FB and to some extent BB. The recruiting potential in both sports is very strong in North Texas and they might pull us on board if they see we are serious and have had success.

ACC out of play? I see them as SMU's best chance. Besides, SMU would need an astronomical increase in research funding to be considered for AAU.

Would the Big 10 like to expand into the Texas market, specifically Dallas someday?

The B12 is probably SMU's worst chance. 0-10%
The ACC is basically full. If we get added, it would be to replace a departing team. 10-20%.

The SEC could expand to Dallas with SMU. With Aggie, they would have a football game in Texas every week. 20-30%

The B10 doesn't need any more Midwest teams. They have the NE teams they want. But, they will never add UH. Without a partner, I don't see them taking on a small school in a distant land. 0-10%

P12 - if they would take UH, they would have access to the central time zone. Essentially, they could offer an extra game to TV partners and two, huge growing markets. 30-40%
Do unto others before they do unto you!!

i see the ACC as lowest probability. I think the Big 12 is actually more possible than you think for two simple reasons, they only have 10 schools right now with very few good expansion options, and #2 a pre-emptive move to keep another big league from gaining good access to Dallas.

We are the best fit with ACC and they need more geography - but they are stuck with 4 teams in NC. Not sure how you would fit us in there, much less UH which is not really a fit in how the view themselves.

BIG would be awful. I'd rather stay in the AAC then play vs Midwest teams. That would be no fun at all.

Football would have to show a bigger pulse than it has to get anyone's attention, which means three years at the soonest.

There's about no chance of the B10 going after anyone outside of UT in Texas. And that won't be happening because of the LHN. Georgia Tech and North Carolina are on Delaney's wish list. Atlanta market and Raleigh/Carolina presence. And is SMU an AAU school? B10 cares a lot about that. If not, probably no chance unless they become an AAU member realistically.

They wanted in lol, I know this for fact too. Delaney told them to abandon the LHN.
