Not really. See: Syracuse, Pitt to ACC. That was basketball + market access. Same with Maryland to B10. And Rutgers to B10 was only about market access.

It is not always about football. But it is always about money.

Rutgers and Maryland are still a head scratcher to me for the Big 10.

Rutgers and MD bring nothing to the B 10. Rutgers has absolutely no following in the NYC metropolitan area and MD has marginal following in the Baltimore and WDC area where almost every one is relocated from somewhere else and follows their favorite teams else where. They are a great academic fit with the B 10, but a very puzzling fit re sports. Both Rutgers and MD have huge sports program debts and even receiving big $$$ from the B 10 will take years to just get into some form of balance.

Whether Rutgers has a following or not, B10 Network is now getting added to all NYC cable packages. That's why. For Maryland, see Rutgers. It has to do with recruiting as well and many other things. They were also added for extra sports to make a conference for certain sports. B10 Network is the catalyst to a lot of it.

Whoever said they'd rather SMU be in the American than the Big Ten needs their head examined.

Big Ten won't happen- no AAU membership, not a geographic fit and we average 15K per game in football. We don't give them access to Texas market. Their next expansion targets will be ACC schools like UVA, UNC, Duke, and GT.

SEC would be awesome but is a pipe dream. A&M already gives them Texas markets, and SEC teams can get exposure in DFW market by scheduling games at Jerryworld.

ACC could happen if it's raided by B10/SEC.

I don't see Big 12 unless they lose some schools and want to get back to 12- if they added two now I think they'd look towards BYU, Cincinnati, or UCF.

I think a lot of Pac-12 schools like Cal and Stanford would turn up their noses at SMU, and definitely Houston. If Pac-12 goes to 14/16 I think it will be Texas, Tech, Oklahoma, and OSU. No one else really makes sense for them.

Our football program has a long ways to go before we can seriously start talking about G5 inclusion. We need to be drawing 25-30K consistently for games and competing for AAC titles year in and year out to warrant any consideration. Our rise in basketball prominence will definitely help but I don't think it, by itself, is a game changer.

I know it's a long shot to get into any of the currently configured P5 conferences.

I guess we have to wait and hope the BIG raids the ACC and they need more members and/ or the P12 raids UT,TT,OU,OSU from the Big12 and we join their remnants.

I'm going to enjoy the AAC and Hope we get a FB coach who can win. It will be a conference where we can be immediately successful. Much like TCU in the Mountain West..

I know TCU is getting lots of money and wonderful exposure but getting beat most weekends can't be good for morale never mind the image of the university.

I'll take the AAC while we wait for the next realignment.

We need to make Ford the place to be on Saturdays like Moody is on gameday. Sell beer, market the team and put an entertaining product on the field and I think we can get 20K+ even for opponents like USF or ECU. Obviously this isnt going to be possible as long as JJ is here

I am waiting for Blackout pony to give you crap and accuse you of being FTHP. You just agreed with everything I have ever said. Win AAC first. We haven't done nothing and p5 membership is not owed to us.

AAC is our MWC. We need to prove we belong in a P5. Larry is doing his part, now it's up to June

Bball is helping, but gotta put a winning product on the football field and avg. over 20K fans to get to the adults table.

Ford is pretty small for P5 Standards. 20,000 won't cut it. We have to pack Ford regularly. Do that, go bowling regularly and stay strong in basketball and improve some in academics and we will be very desirable.
