That said, number 2 beat us. No way around that.

I understand Russ was lights out and won the game. What I am saying is a team doesn't commit seven fouls in four minutes and then just two in the next 12. In that gap Louisville committed seven fouls. It's like the refs were trying to even it back out.

I think this statement points out why Louisville, rather than SMU, could have a legitimate complaint with the officiating if the game had ended up close. I think we clearly earned the majority of our fouls early in the second half; we were playing very sloppy. Then the refs tried to even it out at Louisville's expense.

But it's all kind of a moot point. The only fouls that really hurt us were the four on Nic and he pretty clearly earned most of those, especially #2 and #4. #3 was a little vague, but he was badly out of position even on that one.

My thoughts:

Officiating didn't impact the outcome. That being said I found the pattern of calls interesting. When The Mustangs came out of the gates strong I feel like we got the benefit of the doubt on a few non- calls. Likewise when Louisville was stripping us left and right and shutting us down I thought they were getting the benefit of the non calls. Seems like the refs were rewarding the aggressive team and that created a weird kind of equity.
