The sanctimonious idiots that write for Deadspin are so full of themselves it's laughable. Tom Ley looks like he should be blogging for DailyKos. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Deadspin slams Larry BrownLarry brown is just a little more informed on both the Nba and college basketball landscapes than Cuban...
Ill take his thoughts on this. What a stupid deadspin article. Occasionally they have some good stuff on there, but lots and lots of garbage and moronic "columnists". You'd think a site with that much popularity could get some better talent.
Re: Deadspin slams Larry BrownOutside of the profanity they have somewhat of a point. If college is a minor league system then players should be able to get called up at any time to the majors.

Re: Deadspin slams Larry Brown
Any player who wants to get paid can go play overseas for a year like Brandon Jennings did, assuming they're good enough to do so. No one puts a gun to these kids' heads and forces them to play college basketball. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Deadspin slams Larry BrownStupid. Saw the headline and decided it wasn't even worth reading
Re: Deadspin slams Larry Brown
I expanded the quote to say that they should be able to be called up at anytime from the minors (if that is what it is) like they do in the majors. #HammerDown
Re: Deadspin slams Larry Brown
I agee with you - it's not disagreeing with LB, it's the insulting way they did it. When Larry Brown disagreed with Cuban, he was respectfull and complimentary towards him. But but they call him arrogant and, I believe it was stupid, and that goes to show you just how ignorant they can be.
Re: Deadspin slams Larry Brown
Yeah, they can get called up once a year, it's called the NBA Draft. I get that the NCAA does some really stupid, arbitrary stuff, but this recent campaign against college athletics is stupid. Again, no one forces these kids to play D1 athletics at a high level and get a free college degree in the process. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Deadspin slams Larry BrownIn the minors you can get called up at anytime not just once a year. The sports that have minors also have drafts so your point is moot. Also, each scholarship is only year by year but some want kids to have to stay for 3 years. But the NCAA is against going past the one year renewable scholarships. I wonder why?
We should probably go back to the way it was and move the age back to 18 instead of 19. That way a kid does have to go overseas to earn a living at basketball and those that want to go to college can. #HammerDown
Re: Deadspin slams Larry Brown
The NCAA is not a "minor" league for the NBA- 99% of D1 college basketball players will never play in the NBA. I don't think 18 year old kids out of HS are ready to be in the NBA, both physically and psychologically- yes, there are rare exceptions like LeBron- but there's also plenty of cautionary tales- Sebastian Telfair, Robert Swift, Jonathan Bender, Leon Smith, etc. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Deadspin slams Larry BrownAll I can imagine is that it is some fan from a team he ran out on, it really wasn't the kind of comment that had any sense of arrogance or pompousness to it, just a belief that the best coaches and infrastructure outside of the pros is in college.
This is obvious, look at the profile coaches, assistants, fans, television contracts, money etc. in the system. Of course college NCAA hoops is the best basketball minor league haha... #GodFather #Tempo
Re: Deadspin slams Larry BrownI am just quoting Coach Brown regarding the minor league. Kids out of high that are ready should be able to apply for job on the NBA. If they don't get hired so be it. Then they can go to college or work like everyone else. Coach Brown said that the ones that are ready should be able to go not be forced not to apply for employment in the NBA. Soccer and golf do it at 18.

Re: Deadspin slams Larry Brown
Golf doesnt require physical contact every play with guys who are 26-30 years old and in the prime of their physical lives. Soccer does but nowhere near to the extent of the NBA. Unfortunately a lot of these guys will get bad advice from people close to them and want to chase a paycheck right away, which in many instances is not their best option long term. But again, these guys have options to play basketball after HS besides college right now if they so choose. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Deadspin slams Larry Brown
I believe there are caps on the amount of American players that can go overseas so it is more to it than that plus you are in a foreign country at 18. Plus the pay is not that good overseas. I somewhat disagree with your argument because a lot of these power hungry college coaches just want to have kids 3 years so they can have more control over them and win more games. Mudiay does want to go overseas but will be in the NBA after next year. No way Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon should be in college now. All they are doing is risking injury. Most college coaches don't care that much about education they just want the kids to take easy classes that will keep them stay eligible. That's why some colleges have blowoff curriculum. This I am for education stuff is a real farce at times and hypocritical imo. #HammerDown
Re: Deadspin slams Larry Brown
I don't totally disagree with your last point; college hoops coaches are about as sleazy as they come. But the reason college basketball works is because alumni care and are involved, therefore you get more donations for better coaches, better facilities, etc. To get back to the LB/Cuban debate, you don't have that in the NBDL. And NBDL player salaries are between $13-25K. So I'll concede this- if a guy wants to come out of HS and go play in empty gyms for an entire year with zero exposure (quick, name two NBDL teams- I can't) and make next to nothing, he should be allowed to do that instead of playing college basketball. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
