I'd just like to see him and/or anyone else on the offense 'punch it' over the goal line next season! No more 4th & 1 at the goal and not getting it across!

It always amazes me why a player that is obviously not going to go pro or win any heismans or anything will trade his SMU degree for a a couple of yrs at _______(fill in the blank with some two-bit school nobody has ever heard of) - just to play football for a bad team that nobody will pay attention to anyway. Don't these guys have fathers or someone who can sit them down and do some simple math for them.

Slater is transferring as well?

As far as Eric Johnson goes, I wish him the best of luck at the University of Colorado and in whatever his future brings. A CU Degree will open many doors for him; it is not "fill in the blank with some two-bit school nobody has ever heard of." According to his SMU player page, he is a business major; CU's business school, while not as nationally known as Cox, has some major pull in the Rocky Mountain states. Boulder is a great town and Eric will enjoy a good quality of life. If the football thing works out for him there, all the better for him.

Well...let's see. Ouachita Baptist University had never been heard of before Cliff Harris and he seems to have done pretty well for himself over the years. The NFL and other football leagues take a look at those 'two bit' schools more often than you might think. Sure, an SMU degree has its perks. But it's not always the degree that gets you the job...right? And if these guys have fathers or someone else doing the simple math for them then perhaps they shouldn't be on The Hilltop anyway. ;)

The rumors on PFs are getting out of control. Where in the world is Slater going to go with one or two years of eligibility left? CU might be bad, but I doubt that EJ is going to even suit up there.

Eric is not in Cox. Who knows why he claims to be a business major.

my point exactly - EJ is trading a degree worth well over 100,000 - that means more in Dallas then a CU degree does in Denver - and he aint going to play a lick there either - its just an immature move - probably egged on by stage parents that would rather have a shot of a big shot qb son - instead of worrying about his real future - which is not football.

Yeah, I am the guy spreading BS. I can't tell you how many e-mails I have in my inbox from "insiders" saying Bennett's departure was a done deal. How many did I run with? None. Slater is convinced he is a starter. Slater will transfer to a I-AA school and go the Josh McCown route. At least, that is what he believes.

Most football players I have known have delusions that if they are just given the opportunity, they are NFL-bound. Somewhere along the way, they were wronged and are now stuck as a backup deep snapper, just waiting for the opportunity. And that is why two of SMU's best recruits of 2003 are in the middle of Louisiana.

I can see it now. Willis, who runs far too much for a quarterback, will have an injury and Logan Turner or a QB JC recruit from this year's class will get the nod to play QB. Both EJ and Slater will have an enormous amount of egg on their face if this comes to pass. This happened to Meeks when he transferred because he thought that Phillips was the guy. Of course, Phillips got hurt and played very little the next year. Bennett was left short at QB for a couple of years, which cost SMU. Meeks, however, did get the chance to start and play, but he could have been playing at a higher level of competition if he had stayed.

Meeks quit the Northwestern State University football team in mid-season for 'personal reasons'. Wonder if he would have done the same if he had stayed at SMU?

why is everyone wishing this kid well??!!??

he's turned his back on SMU, on the coach we all are infatuated with, and the rest of his team for what? self promotion, or the notion thereof.

you guys need to get a grip on reality - this guy bolted at the first opportunity he had for another 'ship. i hope he sees nothing but failure and bench warming for the remainder of his career.

go SMU and everyone who has supported the team this year and will continue to support the team. I've had it with apathy and warm wishes for all. we should all demand success.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
