I am not convinced that a guy who has been out of coaching for 10 years with a dubious compliance track record is right for SMU just because he has the name Bowden. I also don't like coaching retreads who couldn't succeed at places with more financial, community, and alumni support than SMU will ever have. Why is no one mentioning Solich? He was fired after a 10-3 season with a bowl win?

If not Bowden, I do like Gil. PLEASE not Fran.

Someone tell me this: I think Craig James, contrary to what some think, does somewhat give a [deleted] about SMU football. Assuming that's the case, what's his relationship like with Bowden? Did one supplant the other's studio role, or might there be some connection there where CJ would talk SMU up to his former colleague?

One thing we don't have to worry about now that Copeland's gone is hiring someone like Allen Wilson in hopes of "tapping into the DISD pipeline." He'd be a good hire as an assistant, though, as would DeSoto's Dave Meadows, IMO.

If all the hype is anywhere close to true, I think it is, he will be the next HC. Links to Orsini, CJ, SMU to spend the $. Seems to be pointing his way. I'm sure he doesn't need the $, reviving this program would do wonders for an ego.

And maybe we get a few FSU/Clemson fans that enjoy the Bowden legacy. Be funny to see Bobby Bowden at Ford in line at the bounce house with his grandchildren after retiring.

Bowden was successful, here's his record (from Wikipedia). The rumors say he was fired for some off the field indiscretions (I'm willing to forgive)...tough last year at Auburn but I'm guessing there was a lot of external pressure, don't know the exact sequence of events though

more Terry Bowden trivia:

As a student-athlete at West Virginia University, he lettered two years as a running back (1977-78), held a 3.65 GPA in accounting, the highest GPA on the football team, and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

He did post graduate work at Oxford University in England, and earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the Florida State University School of Law in 1982 while a graduate assistant coach at FSU.

Well damn, I guess I wasted valuable boredom time for nothing.... nice work PAMR... sorry I missed the fact that you already did it. Nice job.

Mine's bigger though... so take that! :(

And if we're having a photoshopoff, I'll dig up this one from last year -

Sorry, wasn't trying to compete. I was actually going to post it before you did yours. It was still a good job though and you probably did more work than I did, to be honest. I simply found a tie online and superimposed it over his actual tie and then erased the Auburn logo and superimposed the SMU logo onto his hat(although I did have to look through several to find one that I though would go well). Sadly, I don't know how much longer I'll be doing Oscar. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Nice job on the postcard, btw.

Yeah, I know you weren't trying to compete... I was just joking.... Yeah I did the work on the tie.... nice job finding the logo for the hat... I gave up and made my own.

But hey, you know... anything worth doing at work is worth taking extra time for.

And yes... Oscar may be sauntering off into the sunset... but your pics were fun while they lasted. I did that postcard as a lark after working on a a seventies style ringer shirt that SMU told me later I couldn't sell (which I imagined to be the case, but I still made it anyway and then asked the athletic dept.) -

Anyhow.... let's get Applebowden in here so we can have real pictures, rather than photchopped ones.

Totally agree with you.
