After all my positive posts, I'll admit, I'm concerned. I don't see any WOW hire at this point with the type of coaches being mentioned.

I am hopeful that the most recent banter of names is simply a PR exercise by Orsini to get expectations down so that whomever is announced is given an artificial bump in the "wow--big splash" factor.
I think Orsini has done an excellent PR job around here--except for the fact that he doesn't answer questions directly--but to some, that would be excellent PR.

Orsini can convince me that almost anybody is "his" guy and thus, the right guy. But one of those guys that I will never be on board with is Greg Davis.

I think all the discussion about the various coaches on this board has probably taken the "WOW" factor out of them for avid Ponyfans.com member that actively reads this message board. However, most alumni and recruits do not read the board so hiring any of the top prospects that have been discussed on this board might "WOW" them!

I would imagine that SMU operates under EEOC guidelines and along with that, the job has been posted publicly. If someone responds to the posting, even Randy Allen, there probably has to be some kind of contact made even if it is to say thanks but no thanks. Just because someone is contacted does not mean SMU is interested, but rather fulfilling their duty as a prospective employer.
I would have trouble with Orisini hiring a OC or DC (including Norm Chow) with no HC experience just because they have never established astaff or had a history with one.
I have no problem with Kragthorpe if he is the one because we would be the first non BCS school to get a BCS coach who had not been terminated. That is a wow even if a little wow. I also think he could recruit the area well and establish SMU as a leader in CUSA. That is what I want now.
But back to my initial thoughts, I would not put much credence in who has been contacted and go running into the street screaming. I still have faith in Orisini to get us moving in the right direction.

Sure the search firm sends letters out to lots of people. And then someone (can we say, Agent) leaks that so and so was contacted. And then so and so gets to deny it, so he sounds like a hot property. Davis is not a Wow candidate. He would be a last girl on the dance floor kind of hire in my view.

Any school who hires this guy as a head coach OR an offensive coordinator is making a HUGE mistake. If Mack Brown had it to do over, he would not have hired this guy... for sure. But, Mack will not fire him.

Dammit. Just got lured offsides by one of the peon Texas alums. Rather than get him fired, we bet a nice lunch at Babe's Fried Chicken on Davis not being interviewed. Friggin hate this rumor
