Why wouldn't this be a good thing? North Texas and Baylor are regional games. When SMU starts winning again, people will start coming back to the games. Playing close to home helps create more of a fan base. On the flip side, it's easy for the Dallas fans to travel to these games, those that otherwise wouldn't go to El Paso, Houston, Tulsa, etc.
This program isn't going to go from laughing stock to potential BCS buster overnight.
Baby steps.

Playing north texas makes it seem as if they are on our level. We need to do anything we can to make them seem below us. I'd rather play a cream puff from some other part of the country than UNT. At least until we can beat them easily.

Nothing like giving up 315 yards receiving...to one guy.

What the word on the possible TCU/Ohio State game next year?

People forget that the UNT game last year was our second best crowd of the season (behind Tech) and Baylor would be close to a sellout game.
We come out better on this one.
There is no benefit from ever playing North Texas. We are expected to win it and if we lose, we look bad. We can get the same or better attendance by scheduling a real team.

that is not a fact. North Texas has outdrawn ALL CUSA home games over the last 2 years-and in most instances its not even close-25% more generally. Plus low travel costs make it an even more financially beneficial series.

Was being discussed several months ago but fell off the table when OSU signed Navy up a few months back.

I like mixing up the OOC ( while of course keeping SMU on the schedule) as long as they are home/homes. Keep the Texas States off there as much as we can
I want a H&H with Ole Miss! that is a great game for us or TCU... not to suggest that we could both play with them, because one of us cant, but just meaning for the 'vard scene...NOT to say that both of us 'vard, because one of us certainly does not

I am sure that the North Texas game's attendance was better than the CUSA games, b/c there are lots of North Texas alums in the area and SMU is the big game for them. But when I was talking about better attendance with real teams I wasn't referring to CUSA teams - which are generally a joke. I think the out of conference games should all be against legit programs that will garner some interest, b/c the CUSA games with some exceptions do not generate much interest among the alumni or others in the Metroplex.

I am one of the biggest supporters of playing legitimate Division 1A teams on this board-think playing DIAA teams is pathetic. NTSU is my Mendosa Line. I would fill in the schedule with Big 12, SEC and others teams that will bring big crowds. However, generally those pushing for these games don't understand that BCS schools aren't interested in fair Home and Home Deals-they want 8 home games a year. Playing the national privates except maybe Navy-which will spike attendance-makes ZERO financial sense. They WILL draw much less than NTSU, will require a bigger financial slice of the pie and require huge travel costs. Orsini is playing exactly the type of schedule that makes financial sense and at SMU that is paramount. Understand that CUSA is quite frankly a financial disaster attendance wise-it may be our best option but the CUSA schedule drains money from the program. Average attendance for SMU games in CUSA probably average about 13,000. That money must be made up with butts in the seats. That's the bottom-line.

Man are they going to regret that. Navy's 3rd string qb is a beast.
3rd string...didn't pass, rarely pitched......son of a *itch.

Future OOC games for North Texas are Ball State, Alabama, Army, Rice,
Clemson, Air Force, Ohio University, and SMU. I believe NT is working on
games with Virgina, Maryland, and a couple more SEC teams.
I beleive the games set with SMU are very good for both schools, the fans, the metroplex, and should have regular scheduling every year.
I just hope Coach Todd Dodge and Coach June Jones can survive the next
few years ! What a match up, with Dodge vs Jones!

I agree with you, although we are all in a bad mood around here, so expect plenty of flames!

Sorry to dredge up bad memories by mentioning said "Academy"...
