SMU isn't going to stop Nevada's running game. The best-case scenario would be for SMU to slow down Nevada's running game enough for SMU to win the game through the air on offense. Nevada has a horrible passing defense and Hawaii could have won at Nevada this season if Hawaii hadn't made so many mistakes.

Nevada is 119th in the NCAA in Passing defense so we should be competitive and a good chance for JJ and Padron to show their stuff. One of their 1,000 yard rushing RB's is out for the Bowl game so they will have to rely on an inexperienced RB. Their next experienced RB only had 44 attempts this year.

The injured running back was the backup running back. This is the starting rb and qb stats.
C Tot Yds Avg Long TD
Vai Taua, RB 172 1345 7.8 89 10
Colin Kaepernick,QB 148 1160 7.8 75 16

PA PC % Tot APA Long TD INT SACKS
Colin Kaepernick, QB 253 151 59.7 1875 7.4 56 19 5 10

We know that.......only pointing out that one of the 1,000 yard rushers is out---sorry what is the point?

Remember the SMU-BYU Holiday Bowl Game. Which team had 500 yards rushing? We did. Which team lost? We did. It will be a high scoring shootout with the last team with the ball having a chance to win. Let's hope that we put up 49 points.

The other running back replacing Lippencott IMO will be Mike Ball(19 carries on the year). It won't be Lampford Mark, fastest guy on the team and gets mop up duty. When Vai Taua was out(missed most of the Missouri and all of the UNLV games), Ball had 184 yards and 5 TD's against UNLV on 15 carries. He's been beat up of late and has allegedly had attitude problems about not getting to play, so he WILL be ready to step up and prove himself yet again as he looks to be our third wheel next year. Ball is a 5'8 225 lb bruiser, who is also one of the fastest guys on the team.

Thanks for the follow up Backsthepack...good luck to you guys....you going to the game? What is the prognosis for Nevada fans going to the game? It may be old hat for you guys....we are novices at this Bowl business.

I remember when an SMU fan jumped out of the stands at Ford, stole a Nevada helmet (that some player had put down and walked away from) and ran onto the field to "help" Nevada's defense slow down a 28 pt 3rd quarter Mustang onslought back when we both were in the WAC. Jared Romo had no idea what to do and stood there stunned until they guy was thrown out by security, but still one of the funniest SMU football moments I've experienced.

The other funny thing that happened that game was that the head coach (I believe Chris Ault-CF HoFer) was yelling at his offense to execute the "toss pass"--which was a play that we'd never heard of/found amusing and so we began imploring their offense to execute the "toss pass" too. We were so loud and interruptive during their huddles that their head coach finally got pissed and kindly asked "DO YOU GUYS EVEN KNOW WHAT THE F*CKING TOSS PASS IS!?!" We admitted we had no idea and asked him to show us. That was pretty funny too.

I don't think many Nevada fans will make it to Hawaii. Just to expensive. Its the hardest bowl to travel to.

Tell us about it...from DFW its much worse. Although the packages this time of year, if you travel on or before Christmas day, are pretty good....

I have been trying to remember the team we were playing when that occurred. Like you said, I remember people just staring at him like it was normal. I was waiting for a Nevada player to tackle him but they looked like it was funny to them and wanted to see what would happen.

I've taken out the stuff I added last week for getting the links to pop open in new windows - perhaps that was causing some people some problems. Alerted the other guys to the issues with the ads as I don't have too much do to with those. Forums are a bit of a mess right and I'm hoping I can spend some time someday getting them to be a little more stable.
