SMU's bowl opponent is
I have been on the Fresno fan sites, and they claim they are going to the New Mexico Bowl.
Nevada's fan sites, claim they have accepted a bid in the Hawaii Bowl. Armen of our Rivals site, just said he will confirm this in a matter of minutes. SMU vs Nevada

Get ready for lots of run blocking. We should be ready as the guys were for Navy and the D line will now be rested and will have more experience under pressure than the Navy game. The younger guys will have had more time to get strong and work on their technique. We will be fine with The Wolfpack and especially if we are able to come out and score early and force them to play catch-up ball.
Re: SMU's bowl opponent is
better hope the UH faithful come out to see JJ. I could see the Fresno folks traveling pretty well; don't imagine Nevada bringing much more than we do.
Re: SMU's bowl opponent is
nevada might destroy us
Re: SMU's bowl opponent is
Might?
Navy to Nevada comparisons are not apples to apples
Think more UTEP and Marshall running games vs SMU
Big, strong lineman that will push the line of scrimmage, not an option look built on angles and the chance of hitting an alley because a defender didn't use proper technique
We just don't have the LBers and defensive line depth. Yet

Nevada is a formidable opponent, but with Jones game planning, calling his own plays and the runNshoot, the game is winnable. That's what JJ brings to the team. Just come to Hawaii and enjoy the moment, they'll game plan to win, but if it doesn't happen, the journey for the team and their fans will remain with all of you for years to come. In two years, your freshmen and sophomores who filled the depth charts will surely put their stamp on SMU football and recruiting in Texas will get even better for Reinebold and the rest of the coaches.

Cm'on guys this a WAC team and not a team from a major BCS Conference...we will be competitive with them and we may win or we may lose, but lets not continue to bring the 'we are going to get killed' stuff still. We have been in every game this year until the end ( except for Houston and TCU of course) and deserve some respect as well as Nevada.

Re: SMU's bowl opponent is
Some of my tailgate friends felt deflated after the Wisconsin game and stated that they weren't going to the Hawaii bowl, this season was brutal to watch. They have time to think about it, tickets are available. Last year was one of the largest crowds with ND, but there were 10K empty seats. SMU vs Nevada would be a typical venue, including when UH is in the game, about 20K+ empty seats. The game is more of a commercial venture for ESPN, the mainland market in prime time to the east coast, its all about the telecast, not the fans in the crowd. But fans in the crowd is something the bowl needs to generate funds for its charities.

TEAM AVERAGES & NCAA RANKS
OFFENSE TM PER GAME AVERAGE / NCAA RANK
Total Yards NEV 521.6 / 2nd
Passing Yards NEV 167.2 / 108th
Rushing Yards NEV 362.3 / 1st
Points Scored NEV 40.6 / 1st
please correct me because I want to be wrong. Isn't our rushing defense in the bottom 3rd?

Re: SMU's bowl opponent is
Yes but we should be 0-12 then? We do just enough 'bend but don't break' defense to win some games and we have improved Special Teams play that help us win and the offense now plays with less mistakes and timely plays to keep us competitive. The coaching staff will have a game plan that will keep us in the game and remember we were very beat up late this year on the D line and this month off will help heal the shallow in depth D line.
Re: SMU's bowl opponent is
nevada's running game is scary. i don't know how we are going to stop them.
that being said, marshall ran all over us and we still made it a game

Re: SMU's bowl opponent is
I welcome the challenge. Force some turnovers, jump on them quickly and you never know. Kids will be excited and Jones should probably have them relaxed to play the football game.
Hey, you need to play good people to see where you are and where you are going and where you need to improve.
Isn't cool that we get to FINALLY talk about this stuff?

No need to wait or pay — it's Nevada.

SMU isn't going to stop Nevada's running game. The best-case scenario would be for SMU to slow down Nevada's running game enough for SMU to win the game through the air on offense. Nevada has a horrible passing defense and Hawaii could have won at Nevada this season if Hawaii hadn't made so many mistakes.

Nevada is 119th in the NCAA in Passing defense so we should be competitive and a good chance for JJ and Padron to show their stuff. One of their 1,000 yard rushing RB's is out for the Bowl game so they will have to rely on an inexperienced RB. Their next experienced RB only had 44 attempts this year.
