Well, by rule #1 that should have been a penalty, if it's the same illegal block I'm thinking of, plenty to chose from if it wasn't. How many penalties did Army have in the game?

#1? Which of our offensive linemen was lined up more than 7 yards from the center?

How many holds did SMU have in the game?

Yes, I believe the block was legal now after reading the rules.

In answer to your holding question, it must have been once since that is all I believe was called.

And now I remember why I can never remember the blocking below the waist rule.

Yeah. The only one I remember is the crack back by a wide receiver. I did not think the one on Margus was a foul until they threw the flag and then figured it must have been. Was not surprised to have the flag picked up. We tackled the kid for a loss anyway.

What is most interesting to me about that rule is the fact that in general, blocking below the waist is okay -- at least okay enough so that the times when it is a penalty can be listed.

Many people seem to think the opposite -- that it is allowed only in a few specific instances.

When I played I always blocked at the knees on punt returns. It was legal then. My signature technique at linebacker, which was also legal, was to clothesline running backs running crossing patterns out of the backfield. How I miss the good old days.

I thought AFB folks did a great job of puting on the game and everything around it. The MC breakfaast tailgate was a lot of fun. The military hardware that was on display was really cool, I would have loved to pull the trigger on the 150mm Howitzer canon.
The way we lost is my biggest complaint. It still sticks with me. hate it.

When they outlawed it, did they call it the Mrydel Rule???

I think it was called the "sleep with one eye open because your RB teammates are coming after you after practice" rule.

If you have ever been on the receiving end of one of those (legs still moving forward while head and neck remain stationary) you know why the RB's searched you out!

My complaint is that I could not get any cell reception so I could not contact Thad and make the huge reveal to HBPD of my real identity.

If memory serves, there were several uncalled flags:
• Justin Smart getting strangled and thrown down from behind
• Taylor Thompson getting held on more than one occasion on his way into the backfield
• Marquise Frazier took some abuse inside that surely is against many laws, but such is life playing nose tackle against the triple-option offense - he knew it was coming.

But, to be fair, there were several flags on SMU guys that went uncalled, too. The low block on Margus Hunt looked painful as hell (glad to see him bounce right back up), but apparently was legal.

Concessions at Ford were, as usual, sub-par and overpriced.
