The fact of the matter is that everyone on this board wants to see SMU win big and win often. We all want to be a top 10 team every year. This is a process....some of you just aren't realistic. There is only one way to make that happen over night and you see where that got us. JJ may not be the answer for the long haul, then again he might. Regardless he has def made huge leaps in recruiting, performance and wins. He may be the stepping stone to the next great coach. Who knows but isn't it cool to go the games now knowing the chance to win is very probable if we execute. Whether you like it or not, we are BETTER. That doesn't mean anyone's happy with us being mediocre. There is nothing wrong with demanding greatness but at the end of the day when you do it right, it just takes time. Come join us in reality.

Very well put pfanman. I want to be in the top 25 every year and have a shot at a national title every year but thats not realistic right now. There is not one person on this board that would not want to be 1-1 and 1-0 in conference after two games given our schedule. We are right where we need to be. And people who say we arent playing to our expectations. Whose expectations? The d bags on ESPN who said we are going to upset A&M. 99% of people on this board expected us to be 1-1 right now so I would say we have met expectations. Was our win pretty? Not at all. Do we need to work on our QB situation? Absolutely. Is there holes in our D? It looks like swiss cheese at times. But 3 years ago we would have lost that game, and that is the main difference that JJ has made at SMU, we expect to win. So saying that we need a new coach is absolutely stupid. And caring that he wears a lei on his neck, my 1 year old has bigger things to worry about. I dont care if he wears nothing but a turd necklace and ankle weights as long as he continues to change the "Tradition" of losing that has been around here too long.

Totally agree. Aren't expectations great- before we had none.

GO PONIES!!!

That's a straw man argument if I ever saw one..."would anyone rather be 0-2? I didn't think so"...give me a break. We stumbled and bumbled to our 1-1 record and at times looked far below mediocre doing it. I like JJ and don't want him to leave (part of the reason I think we need to step up our support in the stands) but the argument that PFs should shut their pie-holes as long as we win the games we thought we'd win and lose the games we thought we'd lose is ridiculous. We over achieved in 2009, um...achieved?...in 2010, and look to be in serious danger of not being competitive with Tulsa, Houston, UCF and Rice (I can't believe I'm writing that) in 2011. Of course we're concerned...

Complaining about our team and coaches is so ingrained on this board some just cant get away from it. We are complaining about being in first place in our conference. Complaining about horses, yeah horses. Get over it. I bet some on here think we should stuff the original Peruna and drag him across the field after touchdowns because the current Peruna is an imposter. Be happy when you win, be critical when you lose, but until we regress to where we were the last two decades find something else to complain about instead of horses and necklaces.

I was at the game and it was definitely frustrating to watch sometimes, but i went home happy because we made plays when we needed to, and JJ was not happy about the teams performance. And when Darius Johnson comes to the sidelines and tells me the lights were in his eyes I am going to believe him. I pretty sure most on this board can agree that DJ has some of the best hands on the team this year if not the best hands that SMU has had in a long time, so if he says the lights bothered him then they probably did.

And i saw a bunch of the scarves at the game SMUer, they looked pretty good, might have to order me one.

Pretty sure none of these Wrs are half as good as ES...

Actually not sure any of them except beasly understand how the offense works...I will be watching again this weekend to see if there is any improvement...

I said Hands. Hands, Hands, Hands. Never said anything about being a better WR. I might have better hands than DJ but im an overweight 30 something white guy, so i did fit well in the Run and Shoot. My point was that DJ isnt dropping a ton of passes and blaming it on the lights. He missed one and mentioned the lights and then the "lights" thread started.

And none of our guys are half as good as ES, come on. Im half as good as ES. I can run an 8 second 40, and my vertical is 18.

Maybe someone with more knowledge of R&S can help me, but I thought WRs were supposed to read coverage just like QB, and when blitz's occur or they bring 8, WRs should recognize and alter routes....

Just curious if our WRs are running 1 route or have to adjust on the fly...If they are supposed to run 1 route they are doing great...

Well, they run one route at a time, but they do change the route depending on the coverage.

My understanding the WRs and QB are both looking at the DBs and LBs. Every play call has several route options but at the line of scrimmage they both are supposed to say "AH HA!" and know exactly what the other is going to do. I'm not sold they both know how to do this. So at the snap, everyone has a set route. You can break out of your route, but I don't think the QB is waiting to see what the WR is going to do. They both should know by the snap.

Just curious. How would you know if they did?
