The hiring of Jones showed we were serious and Jones showed he could turn the football program around. He is the primary force behind where we are now. RGT and SO took what Jones accomplished and sold it to the BE.
Exactly, this can't be argued with because it is exactly how this BE move happened.

Now keep in mind the competition is going to get MUCH tougher, so even seeing 6-6, 7-5 seasons in the Big East is trending upward. If he can't get to that point in a few years in the BE, then yeah, I'll have this conversation with you. But for now, get on your knees and be grateful for what this man has helped SMU accomplish.
Responding to this post. You all act like its all JJ accomplishments is the reason why we got into the BE. If going 7-5 in a mid major conf deserves an AQ bid I've got a long list of others schools that deserve a bid. We got in b/c or the school and loaction, not our football or bball programs
i don't think anyone is saying that it is JUST june jones that got us here today. it's a combination of a lot of things, but rest assured, without moderate success on the field and court (thanks Doh and 20 wins last year), which is a result of the AD showing a commitment to competing at the next level, we wouldn't be here.
Agreed, I'm not arguing that June Jones alone did this. I'm well aware of our endowment, academics, market, etc., but June Jones brought SMU much needed exposure by even coming here. Since then he has turned SMU football from a laughing stock in a bad mid-major conference into a team which people in the area and even nationally have been paying attention to. Without that crucial component, I'm not sure if the Big East would ever even consider us. June Jones and his quick turn around of our football conference definitely caught people's attention.

Banjo, If you did play a sport at SMU, you would not be calling for the coaches head after two loss. The team played poorly and didn't execute. I've said it before and I will say it again, the staff put the players in a position to win. They just did not execute. You have 196 post in three days and the ones I have read are all [deleted].
If we were not in Dallas I doubt this would have worked out. But even Dallas with a school not committed to athletics, it was not going to happen. We needed Jones first because he had the reputation to be able to demand the changes that needed to be made in the program that the previous coaching staffs could not get. With each hire the recruiting guidelines had been relaxed, but Jones was able to demand rather than request what need be done. That is when the program took a turn toward the end result. 7-5, 8-4, 7-7, do not matter. What mattered was the school committing to the program. Even with the bad basketball records, the construction, the coaching hires, etc. all showed commitment to athletics. The combination of all these things is what got us where we are. No one thing did it.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
This guy (bingo bongo) claims to have attended SMU and yet can't spell worth crap. See post at 7:45- I assume his 'kow' was meant to be 'know' and 'guartnee' was meant to be guarantee. Probably a tcwho grad in disuise. Oh well, as they say- ignorance is bliss.
bien -Few agree with anything that I post- especially regarding our soccer teams. Actually, we all have different ideas about how things should be done but the common goal is to improve our university and our sports programs.
GO PONIES!!!

thanks to phil bennett for sucking so bad that our alumni finally had ENOUGH losing and put together the Circle of Champ's to pony up for a big time coach.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Seriously, move on to another freakin' topic, banjo. I've never seen anyone beat a dead horse topic more than you, and you have only been on this site for what 4 days? Pretty amazing considering I've seen plenty of topics discussed over and over again by the same people for a while now. We get it. You think we need a different coach. Thanks for you input. Now come up with something else for God's sake.
