The corner not only has to out jump, but be in a position to disrupt the ball. A huge, strong DE isn't going to be in a pushed out of position by a smaller corner. There are plenty of guards and forwards in basketball that have better verticals than the tall guys inside. The tall guys have longer arms, can get better position are strong enough to not be moved out of position. Also, the corner has no clue where the receiver is going or where the ball is as the play begins.

I have no idea what kinda of receivers they are. The play calls for them to be more rebounders than receivers.

Their routes don't have to be precise and they are not being asked to catch a ball on a run. They are not asked to read coverage. They are being ask to get into position and rebound a ball.

And there are corners for Houston right now worried about how they are going to handle these two next Sat.

Jones would do well to put them in next week and let them crack back on the DE so the fear of the football gods can be put into them as well.

It comes down to creating mismatches and taking advantage of those mismatches. How many truly believe a 6 foot or less corner has a distinct advantage over Hunt or Thompson in a jump ball?

well no doubt you will get your wish since Jone's ego will require that his stupid move gets redeemed. I dont think any corners are too worried.

Regardless - it had risk factors in the decision that did not justify the decision. You run the ball twice and celebrate the touchdown. Or hey, how about kicking a field goal -instead of the turn-over? Like we should ahve done in the third quarter instead of going for a 4th and 5. June isnt unpredicable - he is careless. Its getting old watching us throw away wins against teams we should beat.

i hated the call - maybe when you are up by two tds but not in that situation, had to have 7pts there.

That's the call of someone who doesn't have confidence in his traditional offense. Are we to the point where we have to rely on trickery? Poor call. "Line" it up and make them stop you. Especially, when your QB play has been erratic at best the past 4 games. Give it to your money player. Poor coaching......again.

I don't have as much of a problem with the call as with the stupid throw by JJ ( the ONLY thing to think about is NOT to throw it low)...if he makes the catch from JJ, it fires up the team and the crowd, if JJ throws high and Thompson misses the catch ( which prevents the INT) at least we have the field goal option.

It's hard to throw an accurate fade into a strong wind. That's why most coaches won't call a fade into a strong wind.

Cal makes a good point about the wind. However, in a must score situation, we choose to go to a play we tried once in 2009, and not tried at all in 2010, and not tried at all in 2011 until then?? Crucial call, and we resort to a play we have never had success with. Never.

Good points guys and we will never agree, but it was only one play in the game and its wasn't the final game winning play for the game. The pass never had a chance to get affected by the wind...it was a tight spiral directly to the Navy DB. If he had thrown it up and it got a little bit hung up in the wind....then good!.. you have a 6'6 290 pound guy vs a 5'10 180 pound DB in the air going after the ball...I like the chances of Taylor pulling it down.

If it got hung up in the wind, it would have been a disastrous underthrow. Laws of physics.

it was only a 15 yard throw?....physics would come into play more with wind and distance. Again it was only one play...if it went over his head, then kick a field goal. The next time they run this play, the D will adjust and put double coverage on both of them and the inside will open up for the slot and/or for Line to just run it in.

Thompson is 6'8 and not 6'6 also and he DID play tight end at Prosper HS, so he probably has some ok hands. It was kinda weird to see several out of the ordinary offensive plays called in the same game...we HAVE all complained about the sameness of the JJ play calling.......

Zach will break the record... 8)
