I think Pee Wee Herman would play a better Sandusky. Jack Nicholson as Paterno - 'You can't handle the truth!'

He is the winningest coach in NCAA history, so you can exclude (1), (2) and (3).

The old saying about absolute power.

Let's face it, Div I coaches have a cult of personality built around them. They all do to succeed. If you question the coach, then it is off with your head.

Forum boards (all forum boards, not just this one) demonstrate this. If an individual questions authority, they are ridiculed. Forum boards provide anonimity (most of the time) which allows for more questioning, but still if you question what the head coach is about...watch out!

Orwell's Animal Farm explains this so well.

Anyone see South Park last night? It had a Penn State pedophile jokes throughout the entire show. It was only a matter of time before that started.

This column also really reads like an ex-employee with an axe to grind. He was waiting for his opening and took it.

Just another perspective on this.

I think JoePa had to have known. He controlled that university.

How often are football coordinators given "professor emeritus" status at their schools?!? That allowed him full access to campus, facilities, allowed him to have his office, faculty discounts even after he was retired. I've never heard of that...did he teach a course at PSU?!? I can't imagine that's very common and really opens the school up for complicity concerns.

If you are machivelian, you would believe he had more on Joe, than Joe on him. Recruiting violations? participation by prominent boosters? members of the administration? or just Joe's pride in the university that he wanted to protect.

I happen to believe (at this point) Joe believed he was in charge of protecting the university and wanted to protect its name (only leading to its new nickname, "Perp State").
