"JoePa knew (decided to protect Penn St instead of children)

Post by Insane_Pony_Posse »

Former Penn State Grad Asst Coach:

"Joe Paterno knew and knows everything about what's happening in his program and in State College. He was / is the ultimate control freak. If Jerry committed these crimes it is impossible for me to think Joe was not aware and complicit.

When a powerless boy needed a man of real character and integrity to protect him, Joe showed his true colors. He protected himself and let the little boy disappear.

I am sure Penn State's Trustees would trade all of the violations in the history of the NCAA for the atrocity Joe and Jerry left in their laps. The total number of sanctions placed on football programs in the history of the NCAA do not add up to the destruction of one young boy's soul.

Joe, for all his years of projecting a saintly image while allowing the destruction of young souls, will now be assessed as leading the most vial and destructive scandal in the history of sport. His deviance for power facilitated Jerry's evil. Joe must be held accountable for this role"

I am tired of perpetrators and their protectors riding off into the sunset with bodies in their wakes.

Another bizarre tradition at PSU was the coaches showered together after each practice and game. We never did this at Brown or at URI and my coaching friends never experienced this on their staffs. It was one of the many things at PSU that made me realize there was something very strange about the program and its staff.

That seems really strange...

If he did know, I only hope he is taken to task for it and receives some punishment. There is unfortunately much more to come out of this.

By the way, the San Anotnio DA's investigation is still proceeding with the Alamo Bowl trip.

Oh Joe knew alright. That much is for certain. Read the grand jury statement (if you can stomach the sick details). Sandusky was investigated in 1998 by the university police for alleged inappropriate contact with young boys and Paterno was interviewed in connection with that investigation. In 2003, Paterno was specifically told of Sandusky's inappropriate contact with a young boy by Mr. McQuery (sp?). The only thing in dispute there is exactly what Joe was told. But to the extent Paterno claims he didn't know (and I don't know if that's the position he'll take), that is not credible.

I don't know whether Joe was (1) naive, (2) incredibly stupid, (3) lazy or (4) Evil. He was one of the four or a mixture of all them.

You missed the biggest one. Egotistical. His legacy including the chase for the all time wins record and most games coached was way more important to him than some underpriviliged kids getting raped.........He is lower than whale shi*t in the ocean....................

I read the Grand Jury's finding and it is truly disturbing. No, "Disturbing" is to gentle of a term. It is Vile! We have a presumption of innocence in this country, but after reading it I was ready to go purchase a rope. If Sandusky is convicted of this crime, I hope they put him in general population where murders and gang bangers can treat him like he treated his victims.

Here is a link to the Grand Jury report: http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/uploaded ... ntment.pdf

hadn't heard that. part of me says that's the right thing to do, part of me says wait til everything settles down. they already fired him.

this whole thing still just shocks me, top to bottom. this may be the biggest scandal ever to hit college athletics, if it's not already.

then, again.....maybe not.

The Joe Paterno statue outside Beaver Stadium could end up staying put after all.

Penn State said Wednesday that no discussions have taken place regarding the potential removal of the statue, according to USA Today, which contradicts a previous report from CBS Sports' Gregg Doyel.

Doyel reported earlier in the day that Penn State is planning to take down the statue of Paterno over Thanksgiving, stating that two PSU students were informed of this by their professors. He said that the removal of the 7-foot tall, 900-pound statue of JoePa would be done in an effort to avoid riots.
