He talked about the hog call at Arkansas as an example. He wants something to get the fans together as a unit to be loud and proud of their school. He did not say he wanted to change the colors to red and white or change the dragon to a pig but rather he reached out to the community immediately to connect and tell them he wanted and needed their support.
That is what I want from Jones. He tries to change things, and granted he did so in order to try and instill a fresh start attitude of winning so I can understand some of that, but he has not done anything to embrace the Dallas community. If he wants the community support, they need to want to do so, not do so just because he wants them to.
You spoke for a great many of us. Nice.
me too

It's not just JJ, SMU as a school does not embrace Dallas. We've always used the city as a selling point to potential students and athletes but when it comes to the citizens of Dallas outside of the Park Cities bubble, for some reason we've basically ignored them.

Because we are so much better than they are.

I know, well hope you're joking but unfortunately that's what most non-SMU people think our attitude is. I love SMU and I'm proud to have spent four years there but if I hadn't and lived in Dallas I seriously doubt I would even consider attending games. Bottom line is we don't have a very inviting image to outsiders....and from what i can tell, we've done very little to change that image.
