fornaxqt, please let your son know that although we can't yet fill the stadium with diehard fans, the ones that do show up are exactly that, DIEHARD FANS who have supported this team for years. We support the players and want them to succeed. So fight hard and know we appreciate their effort.

However, you must understand that it's excruciating to see us lose in such creative ways.

So much so that people leave/ turn off the game upset.

A hard-fought, competitive, spirited loss with tactful coaching is one thing..

But some of these are real head-scratchers.

Yep, I agree. All I'm saying is let's get behind these players for this one game. Right now. Tweet them. Facebook them. Whatever it takes to get their spirits up since there is no leadership at the HC position, we have to do it.

Do we really need some alumni being best buddies with the football players. OK if you're family, friends, school chums. Otherwise, its pretty pathetic. They've got better things to do than listen to some old alumni talk x's and o's. Quite frankly the less contact between alumni and players the better. SMU learned that the hard way. So did USC. Miami soon will.

Stallion, you misunderstood my post. I don't think there's anything wrong by simply saying "Keep your head up. You played great. We're pulling for you. Pony up!" That's it. I'm not saying to stalk them or take them out to dinner or even discuss anything football-related. They need to know we fans are out there supporting them - even the ones far away who can't make it to many games like myself. That's all.

Thanks PK....We all realize there are DIEHARD FANS as we see them at all home games and a lot of away games...I obviously don't know most, or anyone on this board, but for those who take the time and spend the money to go to the games regardless of the record, my hat is off to you! For those that don't I understand, I just hope when we do start winning they will start filling the seats again!

I will definitely pass on the words of encouragment to my son and other players.

Thanks for taking the time to post, too. Your son and his teammates are Mustangs and deserve and have our complete support. The most recent game shook many fans, when by any measure, SMU was the better team and played well enough to win. The frustration expressed by many reflects the disappointment of a full generation of SMU fans. I graduated in '68 and will remain a proud alum. I challenge some of the posts and their tone, but understand why JJ and staff are catching some heat.

We have come a long way wandering the desert of our own making. Our patience appeared to have been rewarded with JJ's arrival and the improvement on the field. Going back is painful to imagine, but I am convinced (others aren't) that administraton and the team are committed to playing "big time" football again at the highest levels.

I know you are a great father/mother to your son and we want and need you to remain a proud supporter of SMU and your son's team. Pony Up!

It is the responsibility of every fan to support the players, and rooting against SMU is something I will never ever do, even if I thought it could help bring on needed changes.

At the same time, we need to look to department and administration for accountability and sense of direction. There are many concerns we have with the current coach, and the results are now bringing those concerns to life. Behind the scenes and on the field, there are frightening issues that make all of us wonder if we are setting ourselves up for long term success.

We've come so far now in the last half decade, and June has helped light the fire here, but with this move to the Big East, new tv money, and a change to grow our brand and department, we MUST have the results to go alongside these efforts on the recruiting trail and the field. June is not delivering those results, especially at 2 mil. a year...

Gonna add FSN to the Dish Package for the game.

But no fun game thread this time :(

Believe me I shook my head and I'm still shaking it! I had 15 friends and family members at the game in NOLA. That was a game we should have won, no excuses no doubt!!! But we didn't, so all we can do is move on and get pumped up for the next one.

Again...thank you to all the DIEHARD FANS for your unconditional support, as well as those who obviously are DIEHARD Fans but have a tough time admitting it when things aren't going well! ...If we didn't care we wouldn't have an opinion!

PK is dead on with his comment; SMU hasn't had much to cheer about in the post death penalty era, but starting with those who were part of the "Cornerstone" group when we were re-born in Ownby, SMU has some of the most hard core football fans ANY program could hope for. We just don't have enough of them.

Kudos to all who show up Thursday night. I will be tuned in from afar.

And...long live the 1500!

Pony Battle Cry:
Hail to the Red and the Blue,
We're the Mustangs from SMU.
Give a cheer, show your might,
Get the Victory in sight,
For our battle cry will be FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Spirit's the best in the land,
And right to the end we'll stand
For the M-U-S-T-A-N-G-S
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Varsity:
Oh we see the Varsity, Varsity, Varsity
As she towers o'er the hill over there.
And our hearts are filled with joy, SMU, SMU.
Alma Mater we'll be true forever.

Mighty Mustang Thunder:
Mighty Mustangs Thunder
Through the canyon on the hill.
For the Red and Blue and SMU
Mighty Mustangs always will FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
Mighty Mustang Thunder
from Peruna's heart within,
Fighting back, fighting on, fighting hard, fighting strong
Mighty Mustangs will win!

Go Chant:
GO! GO! GO! MUSTANGS!
GO! GO! GO! MUSTANGS!
GO Red! GO Blue! GO Mustangs! SMU

Call to the Horses:
5-4-3-2 Give a cheer for SMU!
M-U-S-T-A-N-G-S, Go, Stangs, Go!
5-4-3-2 Give a cheer for SMU!
M-U-S-T-A-N-G-S, Go, Stangs, Go!

If you truly care, stand and cheer. I don't care if you have to print this out and bring it along. Just make your voice heard. Somebody at sometime had enough spirit to create these cheers and chants. Let's channel their positivity and optimism, following the band, cheerleaders, and Peruna down the boulevard, into the stands, and show the players that we really care. I can't imagine what it must feel like to run out of the tunnel to a stadium half-filled with apathy. If nothing else, do it for the seniors, because even though WE may get a new coach soon, they won't have that opportunity. They are working as hard as they can with what they've got, and we should be doing nothing but supporting the hell out of them.

There is nothing wrong with our players and we can all agree that we love them all for representing SMU and almost universally doing it with class. Mistakes by players are ok by me, they're part of the game. However, major, major playcalling, tactical, time management an dstrategy errors by a coach payed $2 mil a year are inexcusable. For June however, they're routine. Coaches are payed to make good decisions and not make mistakes.
