Time to Get Behind This Team

Post by ojaipony »

The players must be depressed. They played hard and even the ones that made some major mistakes early (Lasecki) fixed it and played well. Some are injured and we are thin in the secondary (when Haness sees the field you know we're in trouble).

So NOW is the time we need to put the FANS in Ponyfans and get behind this team right now. If you are in Dallas, or can get to the game, GET THERE! This is the absolute must win game of the year and our team needs our support now more than ever. No matter your opinions about the coaches, these kids deserve our support now IMHO.

Let's rally and get behind them so we, as fans, have no regrets regardless of the outcome Thursday. This UH team IS beatable! Let's do it!!! Our season is salvageable with a win against Houston.

The players will get plenty of support the rest of the year, might not be as much as they want but they just need to remember to play for the people that are there.

Absolutely. These student-athletes are playing for SMU. Our recruits want to come to a first class university with dedicated fans and future fans, media and coaches, all of whom will be looking at the support for our Mustangs. This support is not conditional on the job that JJ is doing, even if he might/should/must go.

We are heading to the BE next year and want a nice tailwind, including enthusiastic student body, fans and alums.

I agree.

However, you must understand that it's excruciating to see us lose in such creative ways.

So much so that people leave/ turn off the game upset.

A hard-fought, competitive, spirited loss with tactful coaching is one thing..

But some of these are real head-scratchers.

Yep, I agree. All I'm saying is let's get behind these players for this one game. Right now. Tweet them. Facebook them. Whatever it takes to get their spirits up since there is no leadership at the HC position, we have to do it.

Agreed, the team needs to feel we are behind them. Thursday is not ideal for me, but I will be there in my season ticket seat, wearing my mustang blue! :D

They won't get the support they are hoping for and they can't complain about it neither. But if they need to play for anyone, it's the freaking band that has to be there quarter 1 through 4. I wish I could be there despite being the "most negative person on the board" I'm always there if I'm within 50 miles otherwise watch it via tv. I hope we can pull the upset, ill still bet for the team, but realistically they have to play the exact opposite of the team we saw the first half of the season

I'll be there plus three, including a buddy of mine who will be going to his first American Football game on Thursday. No matter my feelings towards the coaching staff, I will be at every game I can.

I have never understood how people who claim to be fans of a team would just turn on them and not support them because things aren't going well.

I understand a lot of people are like that but I guess I'm just not wired that way. Anybody who thinks not going Thursday is going to make one bit of difference is delusional - especially if you have tickets you have already paid for!!!!!!

I'll be there Thursday and won't even consider leaving early no matter what happens.

We all love the players, but there's nothing they can do against awful playcalling. They need help, which is why us ponyfans here are wishing so badly to see June gone for a more competent leader.

Can't fault the players.....they are working hard but unfortunately working with quitters and coaches with early signs of dementia from the concussions from their playing days probably. The head coach quit on them last year before the season was over and then heard that the former Houston offensive coordinator on the staff quit during the game in the Superdome. Did anyone else hear about this? Maybe he has some "Mark Mangino issues" coming out during stressful times. Football is tough enough without coaches quitting during the game! It makes more sense now why he wasn't part of Sumlins staff at Aggieland. Good luck recruiting players who want to play for someone with that attitude. Great how TCU regroups after losses and Patterson keeps them giving their all after tough losses.

Do we really need some alumni being best buddies with the football players. OK if you're family, friends, school chums. Otherwise, its pretty pathetic. They've got better things to do than listen to some old alumni talk x's and o's. Quite frankly the less contact between alumni and players the better. SMU learned that the hard way. So did USC. Miami soon will.

ojaipony...Thank You!!!!....This may be one of the most encouraging and supportive comments I have ever seen on this board. I am a parent of a player, and I see the hurt and disappointment in their eyes immediately after the game. They get up early every morning and bust their butts preparing for each game finishing practice before most of us have even had our morning coffee! They want to win badly. They want to have the students, faculty, alumni, family and friends proud of their accomplishments. It hurts to lose, for the players, for the coaches, and their families. I am hurting for this team, as is my entire family.

I see the mistakes made by the players as well as coaches each game. They know the mistakes they made and they will bust their butt to correct each and everyone one of them. I too ask that we all rally behind this team and show them our support even when they aren’t winning….It’s easy to jump on the winning bandwagon; it takes the true fan to be there when they’re struggling.

I will be at the game Thursday, as will most of my family. I will also give my son another big hug after the game and tell him how proud I am of him (regardless of the outcome of the game), for his effort and hard work, and for leaving everything he had on the field!
