June has less recruiting restriction than any other coach has had so he should be expected to do better than 28%. The question is how many years in a row is .500 acceptable under the better recruiting restrictions?

I hate bowl games for 6-6 teams....TCU included. Shoudl require a minimum of 7 or 8 Div 1A wins for a bowl game.
Thanks for the input Reed.

Sorry gang, but count me in as wanting us to win out. I want us in the CUSA championship game. All of our remaining games are winnable. No one is CUSA is very good this year. So, we can win them all and I hope we do and party in Memphis(?).

I personally don't think extra bowl games are meaningless.
Extra practice, an extra game and road trip for the fans, and most importantly, a road trip and a rewarding/ fun experience for the kids.

Why should the kids of a 6-6 team be rewarded for losing half their games?

Ok, let's take a different tack on this. Forget the 28% win percentage basis. And forget about the rampant cheating of the early 1980's. What, historically, is SMU's win percentage?
The answer is 43%.
In the thirty years from 1950 to 1979, a period in which there were no recruiting restrictions, we won 43% of our games. Good for
#100 out of 125 teams.

In the last three years, June has increased our win percentage 15 points over our traditional 43% Good for
#50 out of 120 teams.

You are comparing apples to oranges. In the earlier period you quote we were playing top level teams.
Since jj has been here we have only played in one of the worst conferences in the country and virtually none of those teams have been top 25.. You see what happened when we played some of our old SWC rivals this year- we got our butts handed to us. jj AND the relaxing of restrictions has helped us get back from the 20 yr. abyss but we are hardly where we should be, especially for the money he is being paid.

if we played in the WAC or CUSa back the instead of the SWC our % would be a lot different.
I noticed you did not include the 40s which would have changed that % significantly. Cherry pick?

6-6 with wins over Memphis, So Miss, and Rice.
We lose to UCF and Tulsa.

Could not agree more. Fan base is not fired up except if it has been a long time between bowl appearances. 09 Hawaii Bowl was great, I took the family and we had a great time. Did not go to Birmingham.
But 6-6 teams should not be in bowl games, you are rewarding mediocrity. Sort of like everyone gets a trophy so no feels are hurt.

I'm sure this number is changing now that there are a couple more bowl games than there were five years ago, and I am of the opinion that 6-6 is not sufficient success for us to expect, except maybe in a "down year" while we re-tool (there is a PF joke in there somewhere) but this I find interesting.
As of the end of 2011, only 24 teams had been to 5 or more consecutive bowls, and 31 had been to four or more. That means, that while 70 teams (or maybe 72 now) get to bowl games every year, less that half that number get to 4 consecutive bowls, which we have a chance to do this year.
I think the 4 consecutive bowl club is a club I'd like to be a member of.
All of that aside, let's win out and finish CUSA as champions, win our bowl game and be 10-4!

i think we will be praying for 6 or 7 wins a season when we move to Big East...if recruiting stays the same, that is. No reason we shouldn't be the next TCU if we really tried.
We won't have a team as good on defense as this one for quite a while. This was the year I really thought we would knock off a TAMU or Baylor.
