It is? How do you know?
This is not a flame, but a question. When JJ is interviewed, his demeanor appears to lack enthusiasm and energy. This is my personal reaction and is not based on any specific insight.

As importantly, I feel strongly that the student body's involvement (which needs to be energized) is based on two things: our lack of success for more than 20 years (an entire generation) and the role of the head coach and his staff in engaging them directly to step up the students direct involvement (full participation before kick-off through the final whistle). Having attended several Notre Dame games, the students show up in force and the players respect them throughout the game and season.

JJ or the next coach have a role in creating enthusiasm and clearly setting expectations for the students and the fans.

In summary, I do not get the sense that JJ's heart is in the broader responsibilities, as I see it. I hope/wish that I am wrong. :?

We no longer live in a world where news has to be verified or confirmed. It's all rumor and speculation and there has been a total breakdown in standards for reporting. Hell, for all we know this rumor could have been planted by another coaching staff who is trying to peel away a recruits. I've learned the hard way not to put any stock in this kind of stuff until actual verified facts are being reported.

BTW totally agree with ojaipony's observations about how this IF TRUE should be handled.

Perhaps, but Landry was a Pro Coach. At a college the coach responsible to students and alumni, not just fans, and all the traditions for those vested 'forever' in their school. In professional sports, we vote exclusively with our media choices and the purchase of tickets/sportswear. In college, our core is the indispensible role of students and alumni, who can't easily go somewhere else, except apathy.

Apples and oranges.

Landry won big games and earned his respect over the years. JJ had a few decent (and one excellent) seasons at Hawaii with a massive home field advantage and one of he weakest schedules in FBS football history in the excellent year. They played TWO FCS teams that year, as well as a WAC schedule that was about as weak as our CUSA one this year (and Houston's last yr).

JJ has raised us from horrendous to mediocre for $2MM a year and that's much appreciated. It's not like he's doing this out of charity or walking home empty handed....those of us that think it's time to move on thank him for what he's done and are ready for someone to lead this thing that will embrace the university, engage the students, alumni, and fans, and take us to the next level in the Big East.

JJ isn't that guy.

I'm hearing alot of rumors and people talking that the next head coach of Arkansas will be June Jones. The more I think about this, the more I think JJ would be a really good fit up in the hills of Arkansas land. Now let's say it's true and after this season he does take that job, who is the big name we bring into SMU?

Your thoughts.

You should read some accounts on him from Iowa State and Auburn. He's just like June when it comes to recruiting.

If true, I foresee another booster revolt followed by an AD being fired.

Pro coach not a college coach. College coaches really need a different demeanor. That is one of the reasons Dennis Erickson got fired is because he had that pro coach demeanor.

I think it would possibly be a worse revolt than ASU. But if he goes it would be a tough 3 or 4 years for the hogs until they got another coach.

by the way the timing of this is suspect. we just tag a couple of nice recruits from Houston, and all of a sudden this surfaces from the "rumormill"?

Theirs of course, we don't have the numbers for a revolt and our AD just got here like last week.

sumlin is doing wonders with the air raid at tamu but i still think fatterson has a belly up on him.
i think june has had it with our lack of fan support so i wouldn't be surprised to see him leave.
