If that were the case, the MWC would be the conference representing the non automatic conferences year in and year out. I don't see Boise and SDS staying for such a small revenue increase when they can make the BCS every year, stay close to home, and maintain their current rivalries. Quite frankly, I don't even know if it is still worth it for us to go to the Big East anymore and we are desperate.

I have to agree with JasonB on this one. Going from 1 million per year to 4 to 6 million per year is not a small increase. I don't even think the MWC teams were getting 1 million per year. Plus the basketball schools help the value. MWC without the basketball schools does not have the overall value of the BE. And much better revenue than CUSA with UTSA and UNT in it.
I wonder how much higher expenses will be for the western schools in the BE. How much of an incremental $3MM in conference revenue is eaten up by travel costs for non-revenue sports, etc.? Not to mention have no nearby rivals and no close games for fans to attend. I bet the folks at Boise and SDSU are exploring a return to the MWC...I would expect them to if I were a fan.

SDSU is going to be in the Big West (along with Boise) for hoops. So that makes this argument even dumber.

May be more money...but seems we have to start looking at bringing June's salary back under the athletic budget. $4mm per year with $2.5mm going to June?

Does the CoC know that we are planning on spending their money every year going forward?

I don't see how that flies...

It doesn't really matter. Going back to CUSA is not an option at this point. With the new membership, they will be looking at maybe $100K per team for their TV deal.

MWC? Really? That nuts.

SMU has embraced the East and until we strengthen ourselves first, running from conference to conference is crazy. Chicken Little appears rational to some our our posts.

we would go independent before we went to the MWC - and there is a zero percent chance we go independent

also - take these numbers released with a grain of salt. Not saying they aren't real - but people negotiate these TV deals through the press all the time - and CBS has everything to gain by talking down the number.

BYU actually looking smart right now by not joining the nBE.

People talk about Houston and Boise having out clauses, anyone know if we do, or were we out-business sensed by the Coogs?

Travel will not be significantly different from current CUSA.

Everyone who joined at the same time in all sports has the same conditionals.

BYU is just doing what it can to survive, just like everyone else. They could upgrade the money situation by going independant and getting their own network. They don't have the academics to get into the PAC. The network they have is better than what the Big 12 could offer so they decided to go indy. They are a unique situation.

We still need the eastern press exposure for national branding, recruiting and the Beast basketball is the level we need for national attention.

The Big East is on the verge of collapsing in almost all ways - all that has to happen is the Big 10, SEC, ACC, Big XII, and even the PAC 10 expand one more time. I still can't believe the basketball schools haven't left the party yet, forming a non-football conference, or the 'Ave Maria' conference.

We have absolutely no buisiness anywhere near the MWC. It is possible that after the last few rounds of expansion are complete we find ourselves in another version of the Big XII, but if not we had possibly better hope for some version of a Deep South/Texas based conference.

Unfortunately, we still have a ways to go. Expect this thing to go on until there are multiple 16 team conferences.
