I'm really confused.

So, his girlfriend, who he may have never met, didn't really die, and in fact may have been made up?

I don't get it...

Its a crazy story.

The supposed girl friend not only didn't have cancer or die in a car wreck, she never existed. He was using the name and used a likeness of another girl his friend knew. To what ends he was perpetrating this isn't clear. Makes no sense to me.

He made up a girlfriend and then he made up the fact that she died???

ND trying to say he fell for a hoax - not plausible. They are going to look bad for covering up for him.

Not only that but he met her at Stanford and went vacationing with her to Hawaii.
