Um, how is top 5 solid? We were better than SDSU this year.
This is a projection based on next year. And we were certainly not better than SDSU this season, had we played their schedule we'd have lost 6 games minimum.

Even with TCU, TAMU, Baylor on our schedule this year (2012), we still finished with an overall SOS of 102. Let that sink in for a moment.
We played an SEC team and two B12 teams, but because of the awfulness that is/was CUSA, we finished at 102. For 2013, you are adding Texas Tech, along with some mix of old Big East/nBE teams. I would guess our SOS for 2013 will be in the 40's. That likely translates to more losses. Simple math.

It all depends on what site/rankings you look at, the last SoS rankings that I looked at were updated 1/8/2013. These rankings had us the #68 schedule in the nation.
I hate that people are panicking at the OOC schedule. We know we can compete with TCU and tech, heck Maybe even win those two. AM sure we can write it off but I suspect they won't be as good next year. Baylor at home is a coin flip of which team shows up. We should be able to be competitive and big east decline in power so our in conference schedule looks less intimidating. I think we will be just fine. I suspect a 7-5 season. I'm hoping for a 9-3 season with two of those losses in the OOC. I know some will think this is crazy but JJ in his 6th year should have a team ready to compete people like this. Obviously fatterson did it, and with success...

A little guy named Sagarin says we were. They ended up ranked #66. We were #57.
Still, they won more games than we did and actually beat some opponents on the road that weren't terrible . We'd have been 5-7 with their schedule and they'd have been 9-3 with ours.

Patterson went 10-2 and 11-2 in his second and third full seasons as head coach........and 11-1& 11-2 in seasons five and six. Year six of JJ and we're reaching for 7-5.........
The qb battle on Cullen is going to be a fun one. Kohlhausen, Cosh, O'Korn (if he keeps his commitment) and Dausin will be duking it out. I think Cosh is the favorite though since O'Korn will likely be redshirting. I don't want to make any predictions right now since our record always depends on who executes our Air Raid the best. But regarding the list, I think Louisville and Cincy are the top 2 for sure but the rest is a tossup imo.
Fortunately for us, we don't have a very tough OOC schedule. We have BYU as our toughest OOC opponent. Plus we bought wins with middle-of-the road SWAC team Southern and UTSA. Rice always tries their hardest against us but we usuall don't have much trouble with them. Even this year's team manhandled Rice.

What about David Piland?

I don't get the love for SDSU. They got one good win at Boise, lost to Fresno, BYU, San Jose and Washington. And then beat up on North Dakota, Army, and the rest of the Mountain goats.
Is the competition in the new Big East that much better top to bottom than CUSA? How many of these teams could beat Tulsa or Fresno? Are they that much better than a TCU?
The top 2 look stout (assuming the UC coaching change doesn't yield USM results), but the rest certainly don't look invincible.

He's all but gone. Should be graduating this May and have two years of eligibility left, which you know will make eligible immediately at another FBS school. So if he comes back to DFW, he'll be at UNT since Gilbert has the job locked up at SMU and Boykin or Pachall has the job at TCU but of course, I have no idea where he's going at this point.
I think cincy will struggle against tough teams and on the road games with tuberville as coach for the first two years. I believe cincy collapsed after they played opponent who actually have a winning season if I'm not mistaken. I really think the way this conference stands and if JJ can harness island fury we have a shot at being #2 or 3 dog in the conference.

SDSU's schedule was ranked 108. Ours was 74. Oh, and we beat them badly head to head.
