Re: ESPN's nBE 2013 Pre-season Rankings
ESPN can go to hell.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Top 5 is solid but you could draw 6-11 out of a hat.

Well, we'll be lucky to start the conference schedule at 1-3
Re: ESPN's nBE 2013 Pre-season Rankings
I don't think we're that far down either, but they make a good point: We lose all of our name players. Line, Hunt, Davis, etc. We are probably in the bottom half unless a couple of players step up *cough Gilbert *cough.

Re: ESPN's nBE 2013 Pre-season Rankings
June has produced four straight 1,000 yard rushers in his offense. I absolutely love Line, and he has been phenomenal here, but I don't feel that his graduation is an insurmountable loss like Adelson does. an All American JUCO running back is on board. Wimbley is still in the backfield, and Line is a RS-FR now for depth. Signs point to the staff incorporating Gilbert into the running game more, complementing the delayed hand off. A lot of running yards are gained in this offense because defenses key on stopping the pass. I don't see our rushing totals retreating to 2008 when McKinney led the team with something absurdly low, like under 300 yards.
In regards to the defense, the linebackers sitting behind our graduating players are supposed to be fast, strong, and athletic, We also get the half-dozen guys we lost in the secondary back after injury. Parks progressed this year and Acker was solid.
A bunch of holes to fill. Defensive line, big time. We'll see how it shakes out. Maybe Junesus will pick up a late-game transfer or JUCO player or two like Moore or Crawford.

Re: ESPN's nBE 2013 Pre-season Rankings
Right, and by placing SDSU so high, it smells of another attempt by ESPN to degenerate nBE knowing that SDSU is likely gone.ponyboy wrote:Um, how is top 5 solid? We were better than SDSU this year.sbsmith wrote:Top 5 is solid but you could draw 6-11 out of a hat.

Tenth would be embarrassing. Perhaps this is more east coast media ignorance. In any event, this should motivate our team and our coaches.
