Hate the schedule. This schedule will not fill seats at Ford. Just horrible. None of these teams are worth a darn. We need to get out of this situation asap.

If you are implying that the answer would be MWC, exactly which of those teams would fill Ford any better? The only Conference that would provide teams that would consistently fill Ford is the big xii and last I heard, they aren't interested in us. We are on our own. We are going to have to build an SMU fan base that will fill Ford because SMU is playing and not so much because of who we are playing. That requires winning and marketing. We have to become Dallas' Team.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Amen!
Actually, there are couple of ways to market this..
We can call the Temple game the...Sean Stopperich Bowl. Remember that is where he transferred after he turned us in to the NCAA. Revenge many years later.
Rutgers game..."Beat the Big 10 Bowl." (Since they are going to the Big 10 the following year).
absolutely right that we have to develop our own fan base; that's why Ford seats only 32k; shouldn't be that tough to accomplish but we are dealing with 25 years of students (now alumni) who really don't care

Greenie, you name says it all. And, your alternative is ....? Why don't we invite ourselves to the BigXII? Or better, yet the SEC? Simply solution, yes?
I suggest we put on our big boy pants and beat some BCS conference teams routinely. Winning against quality opponents will put b*tts in the seats. If not, there are no alternatives, except the status quo.
We need people to buy season tickets. People that buy season tickets create demand because fans can't wait for the weather report on Friday Nite to decide whether to go. Plus, it increases demand for the quality seats. Once again-we'll have a pretty darn good home schedule for our season ticket package. Buy the season ticket package and its a bargain considering traditional rivals like Baylor and Tech will be included. Still can't believe A&M and TCU season ticket package for $95 and then $105 for 7 games didn't jack our numbers up to at least 12,000. We need to get it to at the very least 15,000. That's just 50% over where it was when Ford opened and the program is definitely in much better shape and playing at a higher, more competitive level
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
4-8 unless we really start clicking. We won't beat Baylor, Tech, aTm, or TCU unfortunately (mental block against BU and aTm for sure - if Kingsbury weren't the HC at Tech I'd say we'd have a shot at beating them). I expect we beat Temple, Memphis, USF, and UConn. Maybe we beat Rutgers at home. Would love to beat UH (would say yes if it were a home game) which would put us at 6 wins and maybe a bowl berth.
So 4-8 most likely. 6-6 at best. Again, UNLESS, we really start clicking. If that happens, MAYBE we beat Cincy and get to 7 wins but that's really optimistic. Or, we swap out aTm with a cupcake. Another way to get to 6 wins.
I hate typing this but I think that's where this football team is right now unfortunately. I'm excited about GG and Shead and possibly Lowe and our defensive secondary will be deeper than ever post-DP and a few linebackers will be good (Rambo, Sanders, perhaps Richard). But that's about it. Real concerns in depth in DL/DE and lack of strong senior leadership (outside of probably Rambo - losing T Reed and JG is going to really hurt IMHO).
I have faith in our team and our coaches. Looking for 2013 to be a big year for us. This schedule is the start to a national reputation which, according to ESPN, we do not have now. PONY UP!
The last time I checked, the coaches were not the ones on the field dropping passes, throwing interceptions and allowing sacks. But this raises a big question for me. I read TAMU brought in an expensive quarterback specialist to work with Manzell during the off season last year. Apparently, Manzell was throwing a lot of interceptions during practice and the specialist worked wonders with him. Will SMU do this for Gilbert? And how about hiring specialists to work with the wide receivers? Anybody know?
