I did too. Noticed a lot of UH shirts worn by the concessionaires at the counters.

How about we say attendance needs to improve at both schools going into the Big East. I really do feel confident we will see a big bump by this time next year. Hopefully Houston will too. We both have potential and any improvement at this point in realignment is crucial or we are both dead.

both SMU and Houston need to put better teams on the court and really ramp up attendance and interest in their respective programs; the Texas schools need to do their part in bringing credibility to the new Big East

We have raised our average attendance to 3278 this season from 2013 last season. Plus, Memphis will certainly raise that number some more.
Not bad for less than a season. We will easily average over 5k next season.

I look forward to that. We may finally realize the home-court advantage again... after a long absence.

I think that is a realistic expectation. We should have a much deeper, more talented team playing against the best competition we've seen in Moody since the SWC days. I can see us pulling in 1k a game with no SMU affiliation just wanting to see quality college bball.

LA_Mustang wrote:You're right, Treadway. When Moody gets over half full it is an unbelievable environment. As with most college bball crowds it comes down to the students, and when our students show up they are great. I loved hearing that LB visited the SAE (i believe it was the SAE's) house and thanked them for being loud during the Houston game. This thing is building, the team and the excitement. It is gonna take off and I'm loving every second of it.
LA, I have promoting the outreach to Fraternities for a long time. The fact that LB went is a smart and important step. As a result, the frats need to step up their attendance and make it an expectation for each of their chapters. Bennett made similar attempts, but having a Hall of Famer make the effort is a great development and shows the students what their role in our recovery. It almost goes without saying that JJ and his staff should be working the student body, as well. The social life of SMU must include crazy support for all teams. Get off the Boulevard and into your seats before kick-off and out of the Houses into Moody before Tip-off.

Water Pony, you're right. The fact that LB was willing to reach out and personally visit students says a lot. He gets it. And I remember Bennett doing the same.

Yes he did and did a terrific job of it. He actually made it a point to visit every fraternity on campus. Nothing wrong with Coach Doherty's work ethic. Same for Coach Brown. Good job Coach Brown!

Broke 5K tonight. The most students I have seen at a game in years. Love how brown talks about the crowds in his post game. Says he wants to give the fans a reason to come back. He just says all the right things.

Even more shockingly, they all still seemed to be there in the 2nd half. Did I dream this?

Play well against quality opponents and people will be interested. It's not rocket science. We looked like dog [deleted] for the first 10 minutes but kept it close and make it somewhat of an exciting game. I brought a couple friends with no affiliation to SMU and they want to come back for more games in the future. Pony Up

Anyone notice the play in the first half when Manuel pulled up instead of going hard to the hole on a fast break and Brown yelled at him to "man up"??????? From that point forward, Manuel went to the hole and either scored or got fouled. Lesson learned................
