Moody can Rock
Not saying it couldn't have been better - but pretty good crowd at Moody for Houston, and when we tied it in regulation it was the loudest i have heard it in there for many years.
I REALLY hope someone in our admin is watching the ACC games and noticing where they put their students. We absolutely have to get our students on the floor. More will come if we give them seating that gets them close to the action. Patrons will pay more to attend a rocking game - so you will get more out of your other seats if you guarantee a show by putting students on the court.
It will be a tragedy to do the new Moody and not increase court-side student seating.

I watched a brief YouTube clip of our game at UH this year.
The place was empty and felt like a tomb.
Moody is MSG by comparison. Brown must have felt better about Moody after he played at UH.

Re: Moody can Rock
reducing the seating capacity in the new Moody was the right call; we just don't play many games where demand is going to exceed 7k. With the luxury seating and suites, revenue won't take a hit but I agree it will be important to get the students close to the action, even if that means giving up the 1st couple of rows courtside...but definitely should have students behind the hoops. That's what Clemson and other programs do (to keep the courtside seats at premium pricing)
sure would be nice to have 1,000 or more students interested in attending every game; hopefully the additional nearby camps housing will have a positive impact on student attendance at all athletic events

Agree, best atmosphere in years. The Memphis games a few years back had larger attendance, but this was easily the loudest pro SMU crowd in a long time. So happy basketball is thriving and can't wait to see this program explode.

I sincerely hope we see a huge attendance increase next year; would hate to have a top 25 caliber program and still the same 3-4k coming out to watch. If that happens, my fear is that Coach Brown loses his enthusiasm for this job

Re: Moody can Rock
a few reasons why i think we can expect a pretty good spike next year:
1) better product on the floor
2) the mavs will still suck
3) beer - hopefully the lounge we get access to will have it
4) new building - everyone wants to come see the new building - it will be best college basketball venue in the country
5) LB - watching a living legend work his trade with more tools on his tool belt will be interesting for basketball people

We would have a sold out Moody if we were winning these games. When we start winning consistently and when we play in the tourney every year games at Moody are the hottest ticket in town IMO. Dallas supports a winner.

My uniformed opinion is that we will. The atmosphere along with the crowd was the best of the season. The team delivered an exciting though disappointing finish, but playing well when you have a good crowd is key in getting folks to cone back.
If next years team gets any momentum at all, people will come and keep coming. Just the wow factor of New Moody should also help.
Attendance has been increasing very slowly but increasing even with the marginal success of the team. That is encouraging.

I was a student at Illinois State U when they opened up the new Redbird Arena in 88 season. It opened for the first game in January 89 and was sold out for every game that year. As a student it was really hard to get tickets for the games. I anticipate it will be the same for Moody.

That would be awesome. Moody sold out is unreal. #Moody Madness!

Re: Moody can Rock
I guess this means that last year, when our team sucked so badly, and our home attendance was lower, we had "MOODY BLUES"

You're right, Treadway. When Moody gets over half full it is an unbelievable environment. As with most college bball crowds it comes down to the students, and when our students show up they are great. I loved hearing that LB visited the SAE (i believe it was the SAE's) house and thanked them for being loud during the Houston game. This thing is building, the team and the excitement. It is gonna take off and I'm loving every second of it.

UH has its attendance issues, but comparing a Saturday mid-semester to a Wednesday before the semester starts isn't exactly apples to apples.
You're also comparing an 11 point victory (admittedly competitive until about the 4 minute mark) vs a game going to OT. Moody didn't exactly rock in that first half when it looked like a blowout. There wasn't any real cheering until UH pulled within 3-5 late in the 2nd half.

I would agree with Coog. We can't say anything about other schools attendance. Also, I noticed a decent UH showing at Moody.
