I have no issue with it, just wish it was the A&M game and it would have made sense to do this much earlier, we knew we had this schedule for a while, beat Tech or TCU and surprise me.

Agreed, but I bet the A&M game was contractually a lot harder to get out of

I assume A&M wouldn't let go of the contract, since it sees SMU as a game it should win. Given the season the Aggies had last year, that makes sense from their standpoint.

I don't know anything about Montana State (who does?), but getting out of one of these games absolutely is the right move. MSU isn't as appealing an opponent, but if we were to go 5-7 next year after scheduling 4 games in which we'll be prohibitive underdogs, and therefore miss a bowl because of a schedule put together under Bennett, fans would explode. We need to get to a point where we have 2 games where we're underdogs and 2 where we're favorites. If we could, I'd say get out of the Aggie game, too. Play Tech, play TCU, maybe play Baylor in another year or Rice or someone.

Please don't whine about attendance when Montana State shows up with 12 people.

So true about attendance JJ better not whine about the 5k people to see that exciting game, and I wouldn't have blown up if we kept the schedule and don't make it to a bowl game... Now that it has changed, we better to 7-5. The big east isn't even that more challenging than cusa last year so I don't see the fuss...

You're kidding, right? Rutgers, Cincinnati, South Florida, etc. (thank god we don't play Louisville) is lightyears better than CUSA.
LakeHighlandsPony wrote:We are running away from BAYLOR...The Pony Express guys must be throwing up. If your in Year 6 of paying a guy 2 million a year and cancelling Baylor then shut the whole thing down.
Time to stop referencing JJ's salary - it was impressive when he was hired, but it's more middle-of-the-road now, isn't it? There are a lot of coaches making more.

According to this list, JJ isn't in the top 30:

(Patterson makes $3.467 million? Damn!)

Look here, and he's 40th - not that extreme:

And I don't see this as running away from Baylor. It looks more like running away from 4 BCS conference games, and Baylor happened to be the one we could get out of. Sure, it would have been better if it were A&M, but if they put up a stink and Baylor was willing to bow out of the contract, so be it.

Really?? Ok so we have ucf Memphis Houston (CUSA) and Rutgers USF and cincy who are mediocre at best... MAC teams whooped them this year... Rutgers, correct me if I'm wrong, lost to freaking kent state... And the big east almost lost spots to the BCS like games to MAC teams. I'm not trying to put down the MAC but after this season I'm hardly afraid now of course our season would make this frightening bunch but for any half decent team like Tulsa would do extremely well in this mediocre league. Don't get me wrong big east is far better than the MWC which we destroyed their co champion. Now I hope that influence you out of your naive statement to say I'm "the most uninformed poster"

Not really. 5 of the worst 16 teams (SoMiss, UAB, UTEP, Tulane, and Memphis) in division 1 were in C-USA last year. None were in the Big East. The 3 best Big East teams were in the top 37. no C-USA teams were in the top 37...not to mention the Big East champion rolled Florida in a BCS game.

Great argument though.

Well leaving the sarcasm off to the side. Take away Louisville which is an ACC team now you have a best year CUSA. I'm not saying big east is exactly cusa but its hard to see much of a difference. The three teams Rutgers Cincy Louisville were really the only mentionable teams. Cincy and Rutgers lost enough times to certain teams to deem them as mediocre. Now that Rutgers is gone that leaves you with cincy which now has a crazy new coach I think will struggle like never before. USF sure might make a run next year likewise with our cusa compadres Houston ucf. That being said our roadblocks in cusa or essentially the same in the big east (UCF/Houston). Throw in USF and maybe Cincy and that's your "brutal" conference schedule for years to come. I'm just saying what I'm observing from our schedule/future conference and I think if JJ can get a team prepared like he does in Hawaii then really only the OOC is the challenge. Agree to disagree, I suppose.

I hate to let facts get in the way of the point you're trying to make but......

Louisville will a member of the Big East in football and basketball in the upcoming season.

Rutgers will be a member of the Big East in football and basketball in the upcoming season. In fact if you've even bothered to look, we have a home game with Rutgers this year.
