I do not think Darrell Royal was forced into being an AD like Mack Brown would be.

Darrell Royal was already AD, he just stayed on in that position after he stopped coaching -- never said he was forced into that position.

So was Broyles. I just see it as a different world now. I do not think they will do it, but there are rare moments I am wrong.Pony^ wrote:Darrell Royal was already AD, he just stayed on in that position after he stopped coaching -- never said he was forced into that position.

Agree that with all the $ being tossed around it requires a different skill set than in the past. For that reason I hope Mack becomes their next AD.
And Mrydel, I remember you were wrong when you predicted that SMU victory over Rice in 2002, but I can't recall any mistakes since then.

Honestly, I don't think UT will make Mack Brown AD either, I was just pointing out that there is some precedent.

I just can't see Mack becoming the next AD, why go from one frying pan into another? I have mentioned this before, I think he becomes a special assistant to the President or some type of role within the school/AD department and will be the one that raises money. If you have met Mack Brown, after 5 minutes of talking to him you feel like your his best friend. He knows and understands the UT culture.

Yep! Everything I have heard is that Dodds didn't want to be the one to can his buddy Brown. He's going to leave it to the new AD, who surely will. Rick Barnes is right behind him. Texas basketball has been a bigger disaster than Texas Football.Charleston Pony wrote:it's really pretty simple. new guy brings in his own guys.
