Probably the biggest waste of burning a redshirt at SMU in the past 20 years.
Also don't think any redshirt on the defensive side is as talented as Sturdivant and the way CM recruits, I am OK with him burning any redshirt. I'm betting he will bring in better talent over time.
Not many were better than Sturdivant.

Watching some of the replays is like watching players play a new position for the first time. Maybe the switch to the 4-2-5 is contributing to this.

I invite everyone to watch the replay. Go to ESPN Watch, look at either the spotlighted highlites or the entire game or watch the youtube version posted. I'm not talking about plays were the DE was outflanked-I'm talking about the gazillion yards gained by Lee and Abdullah when the play was funneled into the heart of the SMU defense between the tackles. In almost of those plays the LBs either overran the plays (as commentators repeatedly emphasized), we're tentative although seeming in position to make a play, were blocked off the point of attack (multiple times) or missed a tackle. I'm talking about how the QB ran for 280 yards. It was awful performance by the LBs-one of the worst I've ever seen as well tackling by the back 7 in space. Again, Morris pointed to LBs and DBs. I'm talking about the first team in College Football History whose MLB has 2 tackles on the season after 4 games-.5 per game

That would be Jeremy Johnson.

Everyone is right. Complete lack of discipline on the line, which can be fixed. They didn't study enough or take the opponent too seriously. Bad skill and instincts shown by the LB and S, so he is going to move things around and take redshirts off. You can fix one, you can't fix the other.

Yeah, Malone should have a great game plan ready. They'll really step up this week and limit ECU to only 600 total yards, and 150j QB rushing yards. Significant improvement from last week, and a game ball to Malone.

I feel like there was one burned just to put someone on punt coverage.

Everything you say is sarcastic and mean. I feel bad foe your son, knowing his clown dad is trash talking his team in an online forum with the most hardcore fans the team has.

He's the big white QB on the bench, remember. How can he be part of the problem?
Malone is wearing clown shoes. Morris will be kicking himself for letting Bill Young slip away to Tulsa. Malone had exactly zero experience as a DQ and Morris took a flyer on him because he could recruit. As long as he is jettisoned (or just moved back to CB coach) at year end, we should be fine.

I do so hope you are correct. Better athletes make all coaches better. So if Malone can recruit better athletes, his coaching will likewise improve.

Or as long as we can hire a defensive coach with more strategic experience to go up in the booth, that will work as well. I like Van Malone, really good guy. Great recruiter. Sometimes you need help transitioning to DC from the coaches around you. He doesn't have much experience around him to lean on. Craddock has Coach M right there to help him out.

Agree, remember the youth and inexperience factor everyone questioned when Morris hired most of these guys. That's fine with the assistants but a big risk with a coordinator.

Tulsa is currently 124th in total defense and 113th in scoring defense. If we swapped Malone for Young we'd have the same terrible defense and a worse recruiting class.
