How do our three stars compare to previous classes?

I'm sure these are outdated numbers-recruiting slows down in-season. (PS don't follow Rivals which does a lousy job of keeping up with SMU offers)

62% I guarantee you is the highest % of players with P5 offers since the DP-since I checked the only other decent classes. I'm also almost certain the 150 FBS offers is the highest number since the DP. We ain't done either-and either are our recruits who are likely to get some more looks starting in December

Really getting tired of some of this skepticism about this recruiting class. Its a damn good class for a school that is 2-16 in last 2 seasons. I blame Rivals and their stupid rating system with only about 150 3+ Texas high school recruits. 4-5 years ago they might have 280+ 3+ Texas high school recruits. Its a mirage. Its simply a completely different rating scale. STOP COMPARING 3 STARS TO PAST CLASSES

I haven't been comparing 3 stars to past classes. And I'm not being skeptical, I am asking questions.

In your opinion, who does the best job of tracking offers? The link you posted earlier states that they use Rivals and ESPN as their primary source of offers, so that would imply that the numbers on that site aren't really accurate (In the past I recall you have also said that ESPN is horrible). Is Scout the best source?

Pretty comparable, except Rivals, which don't count....unless you're Houston or USF, or something like that. Stallion will fill you in, or not.

You said the about the previous coaching staff as well. Bottom line is whoever is head coach that is what you will say.

This is really HCCM's first full class. Kind of a foot in the door class. And stallion is right in that these are not mostly DITR and under the radar type of players. These guys have good offers. In June Jones last class almost half did not have any FBS or FCS offers. Over 60% over this class has P5 offers. I am sure Stallion can give you the exact number but it is the highest since the DP. That is how you do it.

If we didn't get another commit and signed what we have now would be the best class June Jones ever had by a country mile. We still have a decent chance to close with some high level kids but we are going to sign one of the top three classes in our conference.

If you look at average stars (and it is the only comparison that goes back that far), you will see that the previous classes went down the last couple of years to the level they were at prior to June, but in the middle of his regime, he actually had some pretty well-regarded classes. Finishing 3rd this year would at least be equal to what June did at his peak, which would be pretty impressive considering how long it took for June to get to that point. That said, I think the quote of "would be the best class June Jones ever had by a country mile" is a bit misleading. It isn't like this class is majority 3 stars or has 4 star players.

It will be interesting to see where we end up. I've used average stars as the formula because 1) the offers site only goes back a couple of years and 2) every year there are times we signed 30 players and others signed far fewer. So if I had used total points instead of average stars, June's stats would have been over-inflated.

If you are honestly trying to compare the 2016 class to the June Jones classes based on the over-inflated "star" system in place for Rivals then you are divorced from reality or blatantly stupid.

Let's FOCUS on how stupid JasonB's analysis is using Rivals inflated ratings from the June Jones era

Go to the 2013 Class which Rivals has as a 2.32 average rating with 22 commitments

The 2013 Class had only 62 offers from FBS schools-only 2 commits who received 13 P5 offers (9%)

The 2016 Class has the exact same number of commitments with 22 and a lower Rivals average of 2.19 but the 2016 Class has 157 offers including 14 commits with 34 P5 offers (64%)

Which Class is CLEARLY stronger? 157>62 14>2 34>13 64% >9% yet Rivals gave the 2013 Class a higher rating 2.32 v 2.19

That's complete and utter NONSENSE

By the time Morris is done with this Class he's going to triple the number of offers that June's recruits had in 2013. They likely will have 9 times more kids with P5 offers than June did in 2013

I am not comparing the star rating between years. I am focusing on where we rank compared to everyone else within our conference in each year. Which is an accurate measure.

The personal callouts of me aren't necessary. They are defensive and there really isn't any reason for it when I am not doing the same to you.

In 2013 we finished 7th in conference, which isn't great. So, I'm pretty sure I'm not trying to make the point that a 7th place finish is something to write home about.

If you toned down the hate and vitriol just a bit, it would be interesting to take a look at the number of offers from the 2011 class, which was probably the peak under June, and compare that to what Morris is doing this year. I think that would be a comparison that we would all find interesting.

I'm not anti-Morris by any stretch of the imagination. I want him to succeed and I think he will succeed. I'm just trying to get an accurate comparison between the two. If we are saying that this class blows June's best class away, then let's compare it both with how it ranks against the rest of the conference as well as compare it against what was probably June's best class. It is quite obvious to everyone else on this site, including me, that comparing the star ranking from year to year or site to site is apples to oranges.

And Shawnbrey, don't forget about him. Every successful non-P5 program gets JUCOs and P5 transfers to come in and be successful. It is part of the full recruiting picture. The corner from Mizzou is going to be an important piece of the secondary the second half of this season. And Green has this season and next to contribute, I believe.
