Recruiting rankings

Post by JasonB »

Average stars per recruit. I realize offers are important, and I trust the staff, but should we be concerned that there isn't a little bit more of an uptick?

Rivals:
2016: 2.19, 8th in conference
2015: 2.18, 9th in conference
2014: 2.16, 10th in conference
2013: 2.32, 8th in conference

Scout:
2016: 2.43, 6th in conference
2015: 2.36, 6th in conference
2014: 2.28, 6th in conference
2013: 2.33, 7th in conference

247Sports:
2016: 80.63, 6th
2015: 79.99, 6th
2014: 78.10, 9th
2013: 79.83, 8th

No next question

We should always be concerned though whenever Jason decides to analyze football players-stick with your specialty-the star studded emerging defensive players of the late June Jones era

also thanks again for once more including misleading information from Rivals even though you've been informed that those Rivals ratings can not be compared to prior years. You are comparing Apples to oranges because the number of 3 star recruits is 2013 was about double what it is in this class

I believe SMU has more kids with Division FBS offers and more kids with P5 offers in this class than in any previous Class since the Death Penalty.

I know yall have a running argument on this - but the part that is hard to ignore is the ranking vs our conference - mates. It may be completely accurate to diminish certain ones for certain reasons, but shouldn't we be performing in the top third of our conference on a relative basis regardless?

Morris has as much as admitted we aren't going to be able to sign highly rated recruits until we prove we can win on the field and put more butts in seats at Ford. We've relied on DITR recruits for years and just have to hope Morris' relationships with Texas H.S. coaches will help him land more guys who will develop into quality players at this level. As has been mentioned, we are at least getting more guys that other schools, including P5 programs, are interested in. That was pretty rare towards the tail end of the JJ regime

SMU isn't recruiting many Flying Under the Radar recruits PERIOD and the ones we are may be some of the better recruits in the class. Our recruits have something like 160 offers

That's the point I was trying to bring up. I don't know how what I posted could be construed as trying to mislead anyone towards anything.

actually SMU's Class is presently ranked No. 2 in the AAC by both Rivals and Scout by their primary metric. Jason used average per recruit which can be useful but should be blended with their primary rating system because schools with low commit numbers can artificially inflate their average per recruit total. For example, UCF (4 commits) and UConn (with 8 commits) jump SMU with 21 commits-but there is no assurance that their class will close at that rate. This is especially since the best players are coming off the board earlier these days

Didn't quite tell the full story-did ya Jason

my biggest concern after watching all their videos is how soon can they get here and how soon we can turn our roster over by weeding out more June recruits that don't belong at this level

If anyone wants to compare offers, the ENTIRE ROSTER Morris inherited only had 171. It should also be worth noting that Matt Davis had 19 of those and Gresham had 16. Minus them, who shouldn't count, that's a despicable 136.

For those who don't remember, Matt came as an Aggie Juco cast off and June didn't even recruit Gresham, he called June on signing day asking to come here.

Feel free to review the previous staffs recruiting prowess

Don't question.....they get berry berry mad!

None of it matters until signing day anyways. The great majority of our conference don't even have half their commits at this point.

No matter what happens, Stallion will come up with some formula or theory to claim the second best class in the conference. :D

I'm not trying to deceive anyone... and as I mentioned, I trust the evaluation abilities of the coaching staff.

The reason I used average star rating instead of total points is because we have so many more commitments than some of the other teams, so logically I thought an average would be the right way to go.

Thanks for the offer link though, I wasn't aware of that. Pretty useful!

From an average offer perspective:
2016: SMU 4th in conference
2015: 4th
2014: 4th
2013: 8th

For the person who counted up the total number of offers on the roster, how did you calculate that? That link doesn't go back that far...

Current numbers
Commitments: 21
Total FBS offers: 150
Total P5 offers: 34
Commits with P5 offers: 13/21 (62%)

I'm sure these are outdated numbers-recruiting slows down in-season. (PS don't follow Rivals which does a lousy job of keeping up with SMU offers)

62% I guarantee you is the highest % of players with P5 offers since the DP-since I checked the only other decent classes. I'm also almost certain the 150 FBS offers is the highest number since the DP. We ain't done either-and either are our recruits who are likely to get some more looks starting in December

Really getting tired of some of this skepticism about this recruiting class. Its a damn good class for a school that is 2-16 in last 2 seasons. I blame Rivals and their stupid rating system with only about 150 3+ Texas high school recruits. 4-5 years ago they might have 280+ 3+ Texas high school recruits. Its a mirage. Its simply a completely different rating scale. STOP COMPARING 3 STARS TO PAST CLASSES
