Re: Atmosphere
The only embarrassing part about last night was the student section chanting "overrated" 5 minutes into the game...
1. the overrated chant is the worst ever
2. I didn't even know people thought they were good, how are they over rated?
3. 5 minutes into the game?!

Good point.
One thing the MOB could do better is to be less ADD. They get a good chant going (like "eight and one") and it lasts for about 5 seconds and then they are distracted with something else.
But great work on Dixon last night!

Re: Atmosphere
I will say it does seem the game day prep and coordination is not what it was the last couple of years.
But, this has always been the lower energy part of the schedule. Heck, used to be that almost no one showed up this time of year. Hang on for the conference.
Late arrivals were noted.

Great crowd atmosphere once everyone packed in but he's right - energy takes a nose dive during timeouts. Seven nation army was fine but the other songs were terrible non pump the crowd up tunes. Hopefully it gets better in conf play.

When the band plays during a timeout, it just totally sucks the life out of Moody

Re: Atmosphere
The band playing is not even close to the worst. They and poms squad are ok. The cheerleaders kill any momentum - just dull. Even worse are the corporate contest which I get are a necessity.
I think our athletic administration team needs to rethink this - and quickly. It isn't just that year one was year one that made it exciting. The music was on point, the video was awesome and the mob had clever leaders who did their homework.
This isn't rocket science - put someone on it. its important for keeping the money rolling in. Its why most of us buy very expensive season tickets.
There is time to fix this year. Invest in a new video. figure out who the best smart asses are and put them in charge of the mob - including game day instruction. And PLEASE go get the year one music guy back.

Re: Atmosphere
The fat kid with the Hawaiian shirt (usually off during opponent free throws) under the final SMU basket needs to be in the Mob. He was funny, into the game, willing to embarrass himself, tried to distract opponents, and was there during finals week. I'm sure he didn't jump through all the hoops to get a center court ticket, but the mob could use a few more students like him.

What happened to Moody Magic chants in second half? Last year we had Police-Everything She Does is Magic or other Magic songs. This year nada!

Re: Atmosphere
While moody was pretty loud last night, overall, I think there is a lack of energy compared to the last couple years....and maybe that is just because of the opponents we have faced and the timing of the games (Sunday's during big NFL games aren't the best timing for the casual SMU fan) I am willing to reserve judgment and see how it is during conference play, as TCU was the only "big game" at home thus far...
With that being said, the team on the court plays a part in inciting the crowd...Nic Moore would get the crowd rocking, not only with his play but his on court personality. Say what you want about Keith, but he made the crowd go absolutely crazy. I remember Sterling calling for the crowd to turn it up last year..I haven't seen that from the team this year.
Overall, I'm not going to kill the in game presentation, but it can stand some room for improvement with choice of music, volume of music and timing....
Video intro is awful...nothing will be like "I'm coming home.." but its bad even compared to last years...
One thing I loved (not sure if new?) the elevator music while announcing TCU starting lineup

I laughed at the elevator music.
I like the run out of the tunnel video (our timing is so bad with it this year they cut it off half way through because the teams running out)
And our into video gives no excitement and is still using last years highlights, 10 games in like how hard is it for them to make a new video.
I was happy overall with the TCU game. Room for improvement to get Moody back to crazy status.

I still say the Mob kids need to learn the words to the fight song & sing it rather than just clap to it.
