We just need to win a couple of the tournament games. We are fine.

I agree...we are good for the coming season. But it would be great to have a regular conference vs conference thing going. I'd love to see it done with the Big East. Hey Big 10: "Do you mind if we dance with your dates?"

I doubt Big East will do anything with us. They want to be perceived as above us. This should have been written in the contract when we gave them the name and other rights. A 5 or 10 year challenge.

Re: AAC vs Atlantic 10 Challenge?
1. P6 conferences (football 5 plus Big East) aren't going to schedule conference challenges outside their group. They want to maintain the RPI advantage that let's them get all but the crumbs in NCAA tournament money.
2. "Just schedule games" clearly isn't working since we are not scheduling games with A10 schools.
3. The Moody home court advantage make scheduling more difficult. An AAC-A10 conference challenge would at least add one solid RPI school to our schedule each year.
4. This will change with addition of Wichita State, but the A10 is virtually identical to the AAC in RPI.
-- In 2016-17, AAC was ranked 7th in RPI, A10 8th.
-- In 2016-17, the AAC RPI was .5270 and the A10 .5262, essentially a tie.
-- In the three preceding seasons, the A10 was ranked 7th and the AAC 8th.

Playing the A10 doesn't help your RPI unless you get one of the top 3 teams. Nearly half of the conference is bottom half RPI. Adding another conference game would have the same effect and probably be more attractive to TV.

If by "nearly half" you mean 4 out of 14 teams in the bottom half RPI you are correct. Last season the A10 had 3 top 50 teams, 3 51-10 teams, and #s 102 and 103. The American only had 2 teams in the Top 50 and 2 teams in the 51-100.
If the challenge was scheduled to have the top schools from the previous season play each other it would be a big boost to the RPIs of both conferences.

It's actually 5 out of 14 in the bottom half (#175+). They have 6 teams below Temple who had the 8th best RPI in the AAC. My point stands that playing another AAC team would be just as good for RPI.
Re: AAC vs Atlantic 10 Challenge?
Hell no, perception matters. Just add another marquee OOC game, road warrior style. Playing a conference who is perceived as lesser, rightly or wrongly, doesnt do jack

I found myself at a building on Highway 71 awhile back and I smiled at a nice dentist as she came out of her office
