This is the game that will save Coach Bennett's job and the players know that. A win over the Cougers makes it almost impossible to fire Bennett especially with the super secret Div. II Texas State Championship on the line. I see a Mustang team coming out fired up. On the other hand Houston has a lot of talent, a great coach, and is favored by a ton. They only need to play at half-speed.

Is Shasta the Coog still around or have the PETA wackos made you use a housecat. I always thought that was one of the better mascots.

The UH coach has hits & misses & is definitely still learning on the job, but I think he's got great potential & is a great fit for the school.

As for Shasta, the last one died several years ago. The President at the time decided against getting another one unless a new habitat was built. The cost of the habitat & insurance was very expensive so it was decided not to continue the tradition. It was the right choice logically, but emotionally it was disappointing.

Peruna lives ona ranch and the person in charge has been hoping he can be the father of an all black baby peruna, so far none have been all black, I doubt peruna is going anywhere for a long time....

Domesticated horses are much easier to care for and have much fewer restrictions on their handling. Generally, it's much less dangerous too. I hope you can maintain that tradition.

I don't know about less dangerous. Last time I checked Peruna was the only animal mascot to kill another team's animal mascot. (Peruna I killed the Fordham Ram in 1935 at midfield before the game). Through the years our Perunas have kicked Bevo, chased the Baylor Bear into the stands, tried to make whoopee with Misty (the Raider's horse), run through the Rice Band, bit female cheerleaders on the hindquarters (I envy that one), and of course left a huge steaming gift at midfield at TCU on their new astroturf. That's a pretty awesome resume for a domesticated little horse. I'm sure there's more.

Actually, our offense is a bit worse than last year. I know that seems odd but we had a good finish. Basically our passing is off about 30 yards per game. Rushing is almost identical, also seems wierd but last year Romo was the leading rusher. Scoring offense virtually the same. The big difference this year is our #113 total defense ranking is now #68 and our #111 scoring defense is now #61. Our turnovers have improved dramatically as well.
