Well obviously Stallion beleives a fired HC (defensive coach) is better at selecting a quarterback than JJ, a coach that todate has gotten us more positive attention than anyone since before the death penalty. Also someone that was deemed too good to ever come to SMU

I'm still in shock our coach is JJ. He has all the belief he can get it done.

I don't like the decision at all but we'll have to live with it for now. Maybe he just hates his attitude -- who knows.

Stallion knows everything and we are all morons, get it straight!

Stallion wrote:I know exactly what he is doing. He is goin' to clear a whole bunch of roster spots off this team. Watch it Moms and Dads. He is going to go with freshmen...I watched this scenario so many times at so many schools-and it always makes me a little sick to my stomach. A lot of these freshman haven't earned Jack-but they will play.

Instead of Stallion's generalized ramblings, let's look at what JJ did at Hawaii...he won with a senior coach that he didn't recruit and a bunch of key seniors that he knew wouldn't be around the next year so Stallion doesn't have history on his side with this comment.

Regarding Leach, he's been at Lubbock, what, eight years? Come on, that's a) a stupid comparison and b) off the top of my head, Graham Harrell immediately comes to mind...a Leach recruit who started as a RS Freshman.

Note: One thing JJ did at Hawaii consistently was to get guys off the team he viewed as detrimental to the team's goal of winning (he kicked the WAC freshman of the year off the team his first year there).

It's going to be damn interesting to read the comments on this board on Aug 30 if we don't beat Rice with BLM. We have to trust our $10M coach and I hope we win but if we don't and BLM is only so so then what ?

I really don't think lack of "getting with the program" is JW's problem. While I think he was pampered and unfortunately made the symbol of SMU football, and just maybe that had something to do with attitude last winter. I think that JW has tried to get with the program, it is simply that that he doesn't yet understand JJ.s system or it maybe the wrong system for his skills.
From what I've been told the two freshman were considerably more accurate and made their reads and Willis didn't, he has struggled. Whether Spring ball would have made the difference or not I wouldn't guess. But all three quarbacks seemed to have started from the same relative timeline.
Maybe changing the system to fit JW's style would have worked, but that is not why we hired JJ. Maybe Wilis can catch up, maybe not.

It only took you 3190 posts to realize this!!!!

I would feel a whole lot better about this situation if JW had started and struggled in the first quarter and was yanked in favor of LBM. We may not know the whole story but it certainly appears that JJ has screwed JW.

MustangTu - Not that I don't disagree with the premise of your post, but Willis got himself suspended, and that is not a good way to start with a confident, successful coach who is a disciplinarian.

T21 yes I agree with your point. However don't you think JJ looked at a lot of tape on JW and knew from the get go that he had little chnance of being the man. If I were JW I would now concentrate on my studies and move to graduate as quickly as possible. I would not leave the program. I doubt any school would be willing to take him in there program with only one year of play left. That assumes this year he will only get splinters.

So, let's say he picked JW and JW hasn't really grasped the offense yet? And we lose to Rice, how does that jumpstart the program. Let's say we ended up 6-6 or 5-7 this year with JW (and that's optimistic). Let's say instead that we throw BLM in the meatgrinder, he takes a few lumps and we end up 4-8 at the end of the year. Stallion you have been saying for at least two years that the cupboard is almost bare. And you have predicted that to build a program JJ will have to run off a few of the pieces of dead wood that you are so fond to slam. Let's say that is his plan, would you rather we suffer for 2 years at 5-7, 6-6, maybe 7-5, or take a hit this year and be 4-8 or 3-9, with the likelihood that in four years we'll be at 9-3, 8-4 every year from then on. I don't think in Leach's first year at Tech he started a 5th year senior since that guy played two or three years. I have been watching the goings on at Maryland this year. Friedgen announced that the guy he demoted last year is starting this year and the guy he promoted this year. won't start this year. It may be that JW, BLM, and BS get to play this year. And then next fall guess what, JW gets tapped to lead his senior year. Then we have three experienced QB's in the fold instead of our usual one. Injuries do happen and it would be nice to have a few QB's who can start with game experience under their belts. Unfortunately when the cupboard is bare (per your own assessment), it might be a good year to get some young players some experience. And I'd rather their first game be against Rice than TCU.

I seriously doubt that JJ pays ANY attention to rivals.com. Why should he trust a group that have proven themselves wrong more times than right, against his own judgment?
