I really hope you are right.

Also, if money doesn't matter then why did we drop the men's cross-country and track teams, which were by far the most successful in the school when they were dissolved?

Why? Even if the "wrong" move is to go the BE only to find it not around in a year or two we are right back where we are today. There is no benefit in staying in CUSA. None.

25 million in Big East even if for 2 years
You're forgetting the exit fee for CUSA. And we probably couldn't join the BE until 2013. Would we still get 25 million? Not to mention higher travel costs and the loss of long time rivals Rice, Tulane, and Tulsa.
We've played Missouri and North Texas more times than we have played Tulsa and Tulane. I think Tulsa is a great program and I have a lot of respect for them. Tulane and Rice have all but given up trying to compete in football. I would like to play rice in OOC but I couldn't care less about playing Tulane again.

Tulsa and Tulane are good future non-conference games...in both football and bball

you say losing Rice, Tulane and Tulsa like that would be a bad thing. I think it is waaay at the top of the benefits. Those games are not fun - and they never have been.
If money doesnt matter why dont you go ahead and write the 5 M check to have us break even every year from our monetary losses in athletics? Go ahead - its not big deal. Just money. Didnt think so.
Someone has to cover that loss - and you cant keep going back to that well every year. That is why Tulane and Rice (and probably Tulsa) will not stay up with the pack and stay D-1 football within a few years. they cant keep putting in the cost of poker when they lose every hand.
as of 2013 there will be no loss to worry about. That is a very big deal for SMU - we can suddenly start investing in other things - IPF's, natatoreums, mens track/baseball etc...are all on the table in a few years with this move. It is HUGE and not even worth 2 seconds of questioning.

No this is a great question.
Good follow up question: should we get rid of JJ and Adrian Klemm?
