Klemm HC
Tom Rossley - OC
Todd Dodge - QB coach
Ramon Flanigan - WR
Dickey - RBs
Dave Campo - DC
Jon Tenuta - DL
Charlie Waters - DBs
Ken Norton Jr - LBs
Joe Allizado - Special Teams
What could that possibly not work?

Its not that we are hooked, but it makes the most sense for the long term future of the program...
If you want to basically have dog poop recruiting classes for 3 years, then go look elsewhere...
We are not going to get Saban, or Urban meyer, who care instantly carry recruits into the school, there is no doubt we can hire an excellent head coach, malzahn, morris, sonny dykes, stoops, ect., but it will be another total rebuild in that case...
Let klemm groom and become HC in 12 months, no recruiting drop off and give him short leash...2 season to see what he can do, at least the pantry wont be bare if he leaves

Nick. I understand. Klemm may very well be a excellent head coach in the future. Why not let him grow into the position. You know by getting experience as a coordinator first.
There are a ton of excellent coordinators out there now that would take a good hard look at SMU to be the next head coach. And I think they could recruit as well. If this whole thing hinges on Klemm. It doesn't matter we are done. You're praying that he doesn't leave and shows complete loyalty. Easier said than done.

The Nick approach makes sense.
If you have a total change of guard in coaching staff, you lose at least one year of recruits, outside maybe a handful.
You are also not keeping Klemm unless he's promoted to HC. OC is probably the better fit given his experience, but that doesn't work either.
Any new hire, especially one of the caliber we expect, will bring their own assistants in.
Promoting Klemm to interim or 1-2 year deal gives us the extra year or 2 of top recruits without the drop off in talent that we can't afford right now.
Is it feasible or possible? I don't know. Can Klemm recruit for himself at the same level? Don't know that either.
But the logic works.

Klemm can close, and coffee is for closers...
Klemm could bring in Kilingbery to recruit and coach offense, mason stays coaches d....
Klemm gets some ex pats with some rings to coach and recruit,

Again, if this whole ship is staying a float because of one guy we are in trouble.
What happened to the we can find another coach if JJ leaves?
And if we don't promote Klemm to HC he'll leave too? Well, there's the door. Take a step back. If UH promotes their recruiting coordinator (who has only been coaching a couple of years) to head coach over A) their own coordinators and then B) over all the available coordinators at big time programs or HC at smaller programs, people would be asking "what the hell are they doing down there"! This whole scenario doesn't make much sense unless you're Klemm or his best friend.

What makes you think Mason would stay and coach of someboody who leapfrogged him into the head coaching position. Klemm is not ready, is not going to be offered the job, and will probably follow Jones wherever he ends up.

How about we make Klemm OC this year. Not recruiting coordinator/HC in waiting.
At least he can then get some experience in a bit more managing during the game/practice/preperation/ect.
I'd feel a whole lot better about the Klemm situation if he got promoted to OC. Hell, I'd feel better if we went to be OC at Rice first then we hired him.

Maybe so, maybe mason doesnt take it, we cant get another d coordinator in here...
You guys loved JJ when he was doing nothing for the past 2 years..no work at all...after UCF I dont think he watched a play the rest of the year. AK can't be any worse....
Memphis just hired Fuente who started coaching in 2007, 2 less years than klemm, and he didnt have a 12 month window where he knew it was his job and could prepare...

JJ doesnt have an OC, and wont promote Klemm over other lemming because of egos...
you should see all the tears when he got bonus and became recruiting coordinator...they all cried like little girls, but JJ knew AK could handle it better and he did...

And nothing says Fuente will be successful.
We also have much better options than Memphis.
And I understand their is no way for Klemm to be OC.
If we were hiring recruiting coordinators as HC why open that up to every single one of them. I bet Alabama's RC is one hell of a salesmen. There are a ton out there. Now Chad Morris, I'd be all on board with.

I like all those guys too...but are you willing to give up 3 top 50 recruiting classes to get them, when you can have those classes and if it doesnt work out go get one of those guys anyway...?

Again, you make the assumption that no coach we bring in here could recruit. I don't by that argument. You're telling me, we land Chad Morris and the players that were looking at playing for him at Clemson wouldn't start giving us a look? Please. This works both ways.

Yes...the players committed to clemson are not going to come here because of morris..I am saying that...
We wont be hiring anyone for 12 months...so you lose 2012 and 2013...no debate about that...
If you are ok with losing 2 top 50 classes...fine with me...I have been watching bad football for a long time why not a couple more seasons...
another point, Is JJ really a great X's and O's coach or a great motivator? Personally I think he is terrible and the finer things, but HC's dont necc have to be the best at certain things, they just need to know how to get and allocate talent...
