I would be very surprised if Patterson went to Arky. He's got a great thing going in FW and he makes plenty of money.

Does this only apply to players who have used drugs while under scholarship? Or are we banning anyone who has ever used drugs?

I guess It'll be fun to see iron man football then.

Any player who uses drugs while on scholarship should lose their scholarship and be suspended from team activities for a period of one year. And that goes for any sport.

I'll even extend that argument - any student on an academic scholarship who is caught using drugs should lose their scholarship for a period of one year.

If we are serious about ending drug use, then let's get serious about our consequences.

Glad I never got caught.

We already jail millions, make it near impossible for anyone to remain respectably employed while using drugs, and fight wars in south america over drugs without making a dent in the drug culture. I'm not sure how much more serious we can get. I guess we can be like Thailand or start executing users.

But anyways, wasn't intentionally trying to hijack this thread into a drug-war debate (the threads always seem to turn into that though). You have my permission to return to TCU & LHCGMFP bashing.

He has been here so long, built up such good will, been given all the money & facilities he has ever asked for, he is building a new house, & his wife is from FW, yada yada yada that I'd be surprised if he ever left.

Coaches leave all the time, so its always a possibility, but I'd be very surprised if he left for THIS Arkansas job. Following a guy who was winning big, expectations of MNC or SEC title this year, but mostly the mid-offseason timing is terrible. Any coach who takes this job this summer is kind of a scumbag. You'd have to leave your school & kids in the lurch by running off after spring practices (plus taking many of your assistants I'd assume).

Seems like very bad timing for any half-decent coach to switch jobs. Todd Graham seems like a real possibility though, lol.

A+
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

In spite of the recent crime wave at TCU, i don't think Patterson would be trading up the 'success-margin' by leaving TCU for Arkansas...tougher conference in the SEC negates any talent gain on the Razorback squad...plus there is a more reasonable chance to reach BCS bowldom through the Big Whatever than the SEC maelstrom.

He has it VERY good in Ft. Worth, and is on the verge of making another jump in the talent pool that TCU can recruit. We have closed markedly on the Toads, but are still playing catch-up. If he were to leave, this would be a prime opportunity for SMU; that said, I would be greatly surprised.

A Modest Proposal-Jonathan Swift. A rather good form of irony, sarcasm, satire and understatement of the obvious for the reader to understand the plight of the Irish poor, and the starvation they faced.

In spite of the recent crime wave...hmmm...maybe I should have put it in quotation marks to help. Hope "that" helps.

Patterson isn't going to leave until the Texas job opens up, and maybe not even then. TCU got very lucky with him and he knows he's got a good thing going.

It's our job to find that guy in a year or two when June moves on.

You can't blame him. LIT 101 at TCU is about getting lit, not reading lit.

As a private school there is a lot of information that is not subject to open records requests by news media at TCU that U of A would be required to make public. I think GP probably likes the idea of keeping some things in the shadows of Amon Carter Stadium.

LOL, yeah the big state schools are so transparent. That is why schools like Penn State were able to keep a pedophile scandal quiet for what 15 years. Problems are more likely to be made to go away at the big State Us. You don't hear about 6 month drug busts at Austin do you? Why do you think that is? If anything, the sanctions and violations delivered down through the years by the NCAA have always been more severe and disproportionate towards smaller, private schools. As a SMU fan, you should know this as well as anyone.

you don't hear about it because no one is willing to try to bring down the biggest show in town. given the general hippie populace in austin, no one cares if half the football team is high. ft worth is much different than austin. hell, austin is different than most cities. but i do think you're right that this kind of stuff is much easier to sweep under the rug at the big schools.
